Hi guys,

I ran across this video on the internet, about some guy,
building and installing a "hydrogen generator" in/on his
M1009..

Any of you guys know about this?
And if it would be a good idea or not?

Here's the video link:

100% BS.

Do a search, we've debunked this theory before.

There is no doubt that the system is generating a miniscule amount of hydrogen and oxygen, but not enough to make any difference in economy. Plus, it takes more fuel to power the alternator to crack the water into hydrogen and oxygen. I feel sorry for the people wasteing their hard earned money on such schemes.

A buddy and I built one out of boredom and curiosity a few years ago when we were in tech school.
It did create hydrogen (we made a few plastic bag bombs) But we never put it on a truck. He did put it on an old Cummins (8.3L I think) and ran it on a dyno, but I can't remember what the results were. Probably minimal if anything.

But build one for yourself if you're curious, there are hundreds of google results for building your own. And they are pretty inexpensive to make. But do it carefully and at your own discretion.

These generators, are in theory, just meant to supplement the burn, like nitrous or propane injection, but I think the biggest downside of a practical-sized generator is that it doesn't have the capacity or the efficiency to make much, if any, difference. You would need a pretty large one to make a real difference.

Hello Guys,

Thanks for the information. I will take your word for it.
And chalk it up as complete and total BS.

No worries, I had seen it put on his CUCV, so I just wondered is all..

Good night,

I once saw a youtube vid where someone took a similar setup then piped the gas to a jewelers torch. May be worth checking out if you ever have the inkling to weld thin sheet or jewelry while camping...

I don't even know where to start on whats wrong with the theory of those things. Your actualy making hydrogen and oxygen so unless your capturing just the hydrogen its a mix getting sucked into the engine. The Oxygen is the very slight power increase everybody thinks is going on. Usually this is at idle where the alternator load is low due to the RPM's and depending on size that thing is draining the **** out of the battery. The part the magic internet isn't telling you is that the device draws power from the battery and alt to break apart the water so there is very little net gain in energy from the combustion again mostly from higher o2 density.

To get a better burn just hook up a O2 bottle or nitrous to the intake and you'll save some fuel but that's not cost effective.

As said they make great bombs, think Hindenburg. I can personally say that they don't work. In high school before I understood chemistry I tried one on a gas engine and all it did was make it run lean backfire and explode the canister that I was using for electrolysis. Didn't even last a full fuel tank and even then was slightly worse fuel millage than before.

If these things were so great why wouldn't GM use them to save their sales against the Prius.
