Do you know anything about swapping out the turbo on a stock m35a2 for a turbo off a 5 Ton does it make a significant difference or do I just have wishful thinking ?

The turbo off any M39 5 ton truck with the Multifuel Continential motor with a turbo will fit your Duece motor the LDS and LDt part do interchange !! The only model M39 5 ton Multifueler that its parts will NOT fit is the M54A2 with the Mack ENDT motor and NONE of the engine parts from the M809 engine will fit !!

It's the same turbo. The early multifuel five tons had a bigger turbo w/ a wastegate. I've only seen one of these in my travels. The later 5 ton multifuel engines use the same turbo as the deuce w/ an adapter to the larger exhaust.

The Macks are M39A1 series not A2s.

really ... no, not really worth it. 600 bucks for 5 HP maybe? Unless your changing the timing, fuel rates, smoke cam, and compression ratio its not going to do much and I would say you will never feel it.

Would adding a 5 ton turbo increase your load capacity? Like double it?

Does this site have a search function?

I put a 4LE-354 wastegate turbo on my LDT; it is easily do-able. It ended up that the turbo was no good. However, after doing a little investigating, it probably wouldn't have done much anyway as Ken on SS says that they have the same ultimate boost anyway.

The wastegate turbo uses a nozzle ring to spool up what is otherwise too big of a turbo for this engine. i am guessing it was an attempt at using an off the shelf turbo when the proper size didn't exist. The wastegate is also pretty primative and parts are not available for rebuilding. I wouldn't bother with it for $600. Get a good D turbo, a pyro, turn up the fuel, and enjoy.

for 600 you would be better off getting a brand new modern turbo if you want to increase the boost.

You can swap the 2 turbos out MVM had a article on doing this some years back, one of the reasons he was doing it the stock turbo lack power in high climate weather because the 5ton LDS has a bigger D turbo to push more air to it than the duce D turbo. Or you can always drop in a 5.9 cummins that works to.

If you need more power, turn the fuel up. Install a pyro to ensure you don't melt it. Mine runs stronger with a C turbo on a LDT. I used to argue against the crowd that suggests that the turbo was to clean up the exhaust of these motors. In time, I understood that the LDS's have other differences. For now we'll leave it at 5 piston rings vs 3. There are more, I'm just ready to go to bed as I post this.

Just try typing in the words your looking for, and try the search. Your not the first person to ask these questions. We have posted this info many many times, and discussed it in great detail.

Our rules ask members not to use text spelling when posting. This means u too.
