Plug missing in front of tranny on 923

Okay I knew I heard something when I left camp Ripley I stopped a 1/4 mile away asked my wife if she heard anything, Thought it was the Pin/chain for the telescoping bar for the spare tire carrier as mine was missing the bar and the chain was dangling.

Front transfer case plug? Transmission fluid level is good. Think this is sabotage.

There is supposed to be a plug down there somewhere it is open for normal operation and you take the plug from its holder and close off the hole for fording.

obligatory check the TM !! Though I am impressed he posted pictures of the item in questions which in the event of a real emergency would have made diagnosis much easier.

To answer your question it is not missing, there is not supposed to be one in there for normal daily driving. I believe if you are fording water you install the plug which is located right next to the hole.

The plug information can be found in the TM 9-2320-272-10 (version before the 2012 release) on page 2-220. This scheme has been used in almost all tactical military trucks since 1950 so it is not a new deal. I am surprised seeing how you have another M939 series truck that you have not read about this in the manuals by now.

I read about the fording plug before guys, but **** I can see machinery clearly through that massive hole didn't think it could possibly be normal. Doghead LMFAO! Those comments/videos are great!

Thank you all, I thought I would go ballistic but I did fix my parking brake that the 851 engineers didn't. Also found I need to replace a wheel boot

Do I understand it right that I can ford 38 inches of water, without doing anything to that plug, with the truck as it is?

Funny thread. For anyone who has had a Deuce more than 15 minutes (and read a TM) you would recognize what it is immediately but like has been said, this is also the first time I have seen anyone post it about a 939.
