Remember a lot of the older posts with Behr #'s on the lids are not true FS they were color matched, so start with a clean slate.
Tell the Home Depot clerk the list of the FS codes in the HD paint computer is found by going under "Competitor Color look up" and selecting Federal Standard as the manufacturer then have them enter just the five number code.

I went to Home Depot today to have them mix me up some of the Desert Tan paint using the code given in the above post but they told me that this is BEHR's old coding system and they could no longer mix using those numbers. Do you have any ideas on how I can get this Desert Tan color I need using new BEHR codes?

I'll check it out tomorrow but try using the FS code, not the old Behr code. The FS codes have not changed.

The FS code for desert tan is FS33446. A lot of Home Depot folks don't even know the FS codes are there, but if they'll key it in, it shows up. The question is whether or not the FS code gives them the old formula or the new.

I'll go the the Home Depot that I've used for paint and see what I can find out.

My dad works at Home Depot, occasionally in paint. He said that the mixture numbers for the Marquee paint are different from those for the Premium Plus Ultra. Sure enough, they are.
For the 383 green:

The FSS code is how we made both of these(my dad was showing me how their computer works). As you can see the mixture for each is completely different.
I don't know anything about the desert tan, but I'm certain the FSS code will get you the proper mix.

I've seen a few stray posts discussing the correct USAF blue and yellow colors, so I thought I'd post the definitive answer here, with samples and links to the federal standards and a source for chips.

Well, that number says it's a semi-gloss (the first 2), tan (the second number '3'), shade 070, or FSS 23070 in the competitive paints part of the paint mixing computers. Here are the steps: Have the paint people find 'competitive paints' in their paint computer and select it, then search for FSS (Federal Supply Standard) and select it, then either fill in the name (usually the top box) or the number, (usually the lower box) and press enter. Then proceed to get the paint mixed.

Does anyone know the paint code for the blue paint the Air Force uses on their planes to camouflage them with the sky? I'm putting up a very large beam antenna for my ham radio(Steppir 4el) and I want to paint it a color that will help make it a little less noticeable to the neighbors.

Carc 383 m931a2

I have used Mike's (wsucougarsx) CARC 383 green on my deuces and was very happy. However, I recently recovered an M939 which was overhauled in 8/12 including new paint. They painted over rust, so the paint is chipping in some areas (Imagine that???). I got a large enough piece off my mud flap mount to put under the laser and this is what I got. It looks spot on!

I matched this color to an old 1952 gas can that still has the original paint. Not sure if it is 2430, 23070 or the early 24087. Either way, here is the code and what it looks like.

First photo shows the sample on the right hand side of the bottom of the can. Second photo is the can sitting on top of a piece of metal I painted to show comparison. Last is the code.

The FS code for desert tan is FS33446 works for Behr? Someone confirm? Can you get it in flat tan or does it have to be in semi gloss?

If Behr House Paint is what you want, walk into your Home Depot and ask for Federal Standard 33446 (drop the FS, it troughs them for a loop). The first 3 in the number says it is a flat paint.

All you need to tell them is Behr Premium, Behr Ultra Permium or Behr Marquee.

Canadian Military Paint Codes

Trying to get the paint on these two units


........so we pulled up a bunch of paint info using the search terms "Canadian Military Paint Codes". This seemed like the right place to store the data. The M135 has the BATUS paint scheme and may require research into "British" paint codes but so far here is the info on "Canadian Military Paint Codes".

The green used on a lot of interior brackets, and many gun mounts (like all the M142's I own) is Forest Green FS 34079.

It is the one you look at and say "Hmm.. Looks like CARC green, but its darker..."

It is the dark green used in MERDC (4-colour) camo. Also USAF camo in the Vietnam era, and a lot of flight line equipment.

Marine Green is 34052/24052

Note- the first number of an FS code indicates sheen. 3 = flat (lusterless, matt); 2 = semi-gloss; 1 = gloss. Thus 14087 would be glossy OD, 24087 would be semi-gloss OD, 34087 would be flat OD.
The second number indicates the colour, in this case 4 = green.

Just figured I'd add in my $0.02 to this post, since it came up first when I searched for repainting and color codes.

I work at a Home Depot, and although the paint department is something I've spent 8 years staying far away from, I talked with our Department Head of paint. We looked up the Federal Standard codes, and sure enough--the ones for CUCVs, at least, were there ready to be mixed. He also said that all Canadian, Mexican, and American HD Paint Mixing computers are connected together. So if you custom mix a paint color that wasn't in the system, post up a picture of the barcode on the top of the can and anyone at any other Home Depot in North America would be able to get the exact same paint you did.
