driver side alternator belts

I just had my M1009's valve cover gaskets replaced, and my mechanic asked if I wanted him to change the alternator belts because they looked pretty worn. I said sure. When I went to pick up the truck, he said the alternator was wrong for the application. The pulleys don't line up. When I got home, I popped the hood to take a look and sure enough, the belt on the driver side alt looks to be very close if not touching the alternator fan. I'm almost wondering if they are on the wrong pulleys on the motor. There are some unused positions going closer to the radiator.

If someone is near their CUCV with a camera, would you mind taking a picture of you driver-side alternator and include where the belt is routed?

The power steering pump bracket is known to break (or loose a bolt) and cause misalignment.

Lay under the truck and look at the very bottom of the pump/bracket to check this.

That belt is supposed to be on the front power steering pulley and the middle one on the water pump pulley. The belts go on it this order. Small Power Steering pulley, rear water pump pulley bottom crank shaft rear pulley. Drivers side alternator #1 big power steering pulley middle water pump and middle crank shaft pulley. Then Passengers side alternator #2 front water pump pulley and front pulley of crankshaft pulley. I hope that helps. I find it easier to tighten them in that order also. PS , Left #1 , Right #2. The picture does show the belt is incorrect.

I did an advanced search for "belt pictures" in the cucv forum.

You(OP) seem to be missing one belt also.

I just put new alternator belts on an M1009 yesterday. A gates 7490 and a gates 7575. I never even loosened the PS belt it was on the rear pulleys. I have always liked that I could almost always change and correct the squealing alternator belts with out messing with the Power steering belt. I just looked at 3 trucks in my garage and they are all the same as I described. Do I need pictures. Or will you take my word for it? I will consult my attorney if I need to.

M1009 3 belts here. M1009 3 belts still 3 on this one also M1009. Survey says 3 belts on the M1009's. I will not argue about belts really. Must we get into this again?

I hope these help him out. I wondered if he only had 1 alternator. He may have done the 12 volt conversion. That is not in my book of knowledge.

So, it looks like the info/pics I found searching have the belts all wrong(compared to yours).

I wish I could open my hood.

You did get me thinking. But I am sure they all 6 can not be wrong. Even the wrecked one has the same setup on it. That #4 picture is an illusion at that angle. I could be wrong on this but I doubt they would have stayed on the miles I put on these trucks. Besides it works fine. Only hard on belts while plowing.
