I now have a complete copy of the M-30D36R Wisconsin Robin 3KW GenSet T.O. 35C2-3-499-1 Technical Manual, dated 15MAY1990, thanks to Baldor. Andrew Spencer at Baldor went way beyond good customer service. Baldor purchased T&J Manufacturing, the company that originally manufactured this GenSet. This is almost a 10 meg .pdf file and I will try to upload it to the Steel Soldiers website later. Anyone needing a copy on CD, please send me a PM with your address and I'll forward you a copy.

One interesting note on this manual is that I have seen posts stating that this is not a Technical Manual since it was Air Force and was a T.O. manual. This copy is labeled as a Technical Manual, even though it is a T.O.

Also, for future reference, a copy of the manuals for the Wisconsin Robin WRD1-270 and its modern (DY-27) diesel generator counterparts/accoutrements can be found:

Mr. Caines was kind enough to send a copy my way and with his permission I have made them readily available on my web site. Let me know if you have any troubles getting to them.

Mr GLCaines,

I would like to obtain a copy of the manual for the, model 30d36r wisconsin robin genset. I have a hard copy of the manual for the Robin DY23-2/DY27-2 engine, but it does not show anything for the genset. I am in need to the schematic that shows how to hook up a battery for the starter, and like you, how the fuel lines hook up. Can you let me know how to contact you for a copy of the T.O. 35C2-3-499-1 manual from you? Thanks P.S. I tried to obtain a copy for the link that dmc-4359 says he posted on his website, but there appears to be a problem with it.

My bad, I needed a URL to measure a few particular time intervals and that was the one I chose not realizing that i had used it for a lot of stuff. I put up a redirect but it won't redirect to where you were headed. I have updated the link.

My apologies for the down time.

Thanks dmc-4359. Those manuals are worth more than gold to me. I can almost hear the purrr of that diesel engine now. Looking forward to getting it running after a year of collecting dust and searching for this information.

deltadog3208,
I see that you now have the proper link. Let me know if you need anything. I still haven't gotten mine to run. I can't get any fuel from the IP. I have a mechanical problem with the pump, but I haven't pulled it yet. You have probably found that the original fuel filter has been discontinued. The replacement looks similar, but you will need to cut a small amount of plastic off of the bottom bolt hole to mount it. Also, you need to reverse the two fuel lines since the replacement is reversed from the original. If you don't, water and trash will collect inside the filter and not outside where it can be drained. Let me know if you need any help with where the lines connect. Good luck with your genset.

For what it's worth, the manual gives a curious initial startup / bleed procedure that I could not make work. After trying in vain for more than an hour to do it by the book, I backed up to relying on what I know works for the 6.2 in my m1009.

I ended up just filling the tank as specified, full or **** near is important unless you've added a lift pump of some kind if the motor hasn't been run in a while. I then loosened the low pressure banjo fitting where the fuel feeds to the injector pump and then opened the valve under the tank to let diesel flow to the motor. Once I had fuel seaping out around the banjo fitting, I tightend it and then used a wrench to crack open the high pressure fuel line right at the injector. I hooked jumper cables from a car battery to the leads on the starter motor and turned the engine over until I had fuel seaping at the injector. I tightened the high pressure line, let the motor sit for 10 minutes to cool down the starter (it turned over for what seemed to be a solid minute before I saw fuel) and then I hit the intake heater for five seconds before trying to crank the engine...which immediately fired up for a few seconds and died. It repeated the fire up and die sequence (with a few cc's of diesel in the primer port added each time) three or four times but then ran on its own. A little smoky at first but runs perfectly now.

It is also very loud. When it is in regular use, I funnel the exhaust through another baffle chamber and then bubble it through a fairly large bucket of water. Still noisy but not deafening.

The Pow'r Gard 30D36R 3kW has a 12V starter, I think. If you jump it with your CUCV you might make sparks.

The wisconsin setup is also 12 volts, which is why I used a car battery. The only thing I applied from the cucv was the fuel system bleed procedure.

OK, I thought you use the 24V to run the 30D36R starter. I was thinking "No wonder it got hot, a miracle he didn't kill the starter."

Yes, the 30D36R is a WR motor coupled to a Baldor ( I think) 3.1kW head.
