The reason you tow your m1009 home not drive

Well i picked u my m1009, decided to drive it from Georgia to Chicago. First im about 30 miles from Macon Georgia when i notice trans fluid spraying everywhere, output seal was dried out and leaking bad, slowed down after Atlanta and 4 qts of Atf.. Ran great untill i was getting on 294 north when i hit a piece of road debris and front driver tire exploded and had no spare. Well had her towed to Just tires will pick up tomorrow other then that driving it across country was a blast. Next one im towing home...

I should have took a pic of the tire i have never had one blow and shred like that it bent the inner fender in, i will try to take a pic of it tomorrow when i pick it up, i wasnt thinking clearly after driving 16 hrs and being stranded....lol

THAT, my friends, is why I love it here... so many friendly helpful people. I posted before I went on my deuce recovery and had offers to help if needed, even had one member put me up for a night on the trip home. Stuff like that you just can't put a price on.

I towed my M1008 home. the next one i get is being driven ! i am not very far from the local GL lot

I too made the mistake of driving my M1008 from Jackson, Mississippi back home to Northeastern Illinois... Burnt an alternator, had no headlights or right-hand signal in the front, had the drag link coupling come loose, threw 2 belts, and could only do about 45mph!!! I could have had it shipped for like $700 but didn't want to spend that much to get it home.... Next time $700 won't sound so bad... Haha!

Well Burbun10 I live just outside Jackson, Ms in Brandon I would have helped you , On that if anyone buys one in Ms I will be glad to help, My shop is small but will be glad to help change out a part or store a truck until you can pick it up, or even help get to a shipper if you want. I think of it as a mission, you never know what might happen.

I drove my M1009 home from Jefferson City Missouri, about 450 miles, I drove my second one home from Salt Lake City, about 1016 miles, and I can only wish I drove my M1008 home from Chadron, Nebraska, we hauled it 530 miles. My M1008 is by far in the best mechanical shape of the three, the trip home would have been wonderful. I had planned to haul to two M1009s, but my transporters failed me at the last minute on both. They were all three wonderful trips. Glen

I picked mine up last week, took the trailer assuming that it wouldn't make it the 120 miles home. I was right, it just barely started and we had to struggle to get it on the trailer.

What kind of paperwork do you guys use to drive these things home? [if any ]. Pa. does not seem to have any kind of temp transit without first having a good titlle which as everyone knows is not an instant or speedy thing wiht GL!

I have a nice towbar I made for 1008s and 1009s any of you guys in the chicago metro area just PM me your welcome to use it.I just towbarred a 1009 home from lincoln nebraska the truck would have made it on its own but I no longer take any chances.

I called my insurance guy had it insured before i picked it up had the card printed all invoices printed. Military issue sunglasses and a cover and head home.

I once could not bring my M1009 home... The crankshaft was broken twice. Engine below the camshaft was scrap. A Dessert Storm engine...

I bought a M1008 at Ft campbell, just 220 miles to home had to trailer it because some Jack@$$ used a forklift on it and busted trans pan. Could have put on on there howevr was not sure if they drove it like that ...putting frags in the cooler. Its all good now except still waiting on all title paperwork to clear...seems like as long as they get their money fast they are good, but paperwork for us, is a low priority
