Not on my M1008, but my old Ford F150 4x4. I was driving along, and came to a curve in the road. I went to turn, and it felt like my steering got stuck and the truck wanted to keep going straight. Then, it felt like something 'let go' and the truck turned into the curve. It really felt like a steering component had broken. I limped it off the side of the road, got out, looked all over and didn't see anything loose or hanging. I started on my way again, and experienced the same thing a few more times. I made it to work, but had my wife drive in and follow me home.

So, what caused this weird steering problem? Hint: I jacked up the truck so all fours were off the ground, and pulled and wiggled on all kinds of stuff under the truck. I eventually found something that wasn't right.

To the first correct responder, I'll send a free CNC engraved wood sign in text of your choice. Unpainted pine, 24" max length. Put on your thinking caps!

Your axle u-joint seized up. Even with lockout hubs and 4WD disengaged, the axles will turn a bit and when it comes to where the joint is seized, and you try to steer, it WON"T steer no matter what. Then, the shaft turns a bit and you can steer. Ask me how I know this........... hint, M1028 JT out

Man that was fast!

Jatonka has hit the nail on the head.... I had a tight axle universal joint with no grease fittings. I hit it with some Kroil, and also gave it a few taps with a hammer. It loosened up, and gave me no problems after that. It really did feel like suspension or steering problems, but wasn't. Sneaky Ford! OK, Jatonka, PM me with your sign idea, and I'll get on it. But someday, I will ask you a favor....you will have to figure out that click in my dashboard.... Nah, don't worry. H.

Round two

Ok Warwag, here's your chance: This Vietnam era vehicle had twice as many tires as engine cylinders, and was all wheel drive. It had a seating capacity of two. What is it? Your sign is on the line.

How many seats does a Goat have?

Edit: sorry my post about the cylinders was more of a clue as to what I was thinking of, not the number of cylinders of a mighty mite.
