I have AAA and other towing - should not be a reason for anything to go wrong - fingers crossed anyway.

FWIW, my Deuce seems happiest cruising at around 2200 rpm.

Too bad im in eastern mass, right off 95. I bet you will be way further west on your drive.

Double check the drive train and every other bolt and nut on the truck. Even the horns have a tendcy to vibrate loose. Especially between the tranny and transfer. Also, the alternator braksets.

Thank you, my fellow Teslite! I have roughly 200 miles to drive and I am figuring six hours with a fuel stop (to take advantage of low MA fuel prices). I don't plan on going any faster than 2200 rpm and hopefully I will not get barn fever with 60 miles to go and start racing up (strike that) down hills.

One more obstacle surmounted before my trip. I got my state inspection today. Previously, the inspector gave me a hard times about grease on the outside of the steering knuckles and play in the drag link. The grease was all behind the backing plate so it should not have been a problem. But he thought it was, and he had me clean the area with brake cleaner. I could find no play in the drag link and the truck steered straight as an arrow on the highway. I tried to tighten it per the TM, but it was already set right.

Today I went back. He did not really even look at the back of the wheels but he did check for play in the steering. He proclaimed it fixed. Sounds good to me. So now I have my stickers. Feeling very legal.

I am actually very happy that the inspection went the way it did. All it cost me was another trip back and four cans of brake cleaner (on sale at NAPA for 2 bucks a can). These guys don't really know me although I had recommendations from stwo of their big fleet customers. 'That don't mean a thang.' With a 40 year old, 13,000 lb commercial vehicle, they could have thrown the book at me. So they feel good about my truck now; it all worked out.
