Unfortunately I'm not at this location and the people who work there are not setup to do any truck work. We just send everything out for maintenance. I just don't know where to send this truck since it's not something the local truck repair places are probably familiar with.
I just purchased an M-1088 6x6 converted to a water truck from a construction equipment auction. We intend to use this on a ranch for general purpose water truck stuff and fire suppression. We are not mechanics. I understand this truck needs an alternator, and don't know too much about the...
I haven't had the time I thought I would to use the truck. Work circumstances changed. I'll probably still build it but since it's on indefinite hold right now, the truck is on consignment with GXV. If someone buys it, great. If not, we'll hold onto it until I get around to building the beast in...
That's exactly why I wanted to do this swap. Do you do what the poster above described, basically hook up the two 12v in series to get 24 and just use the terminals on one of the batteries for 12v?
The truck in question is a SD Brazos with Cummins engine. Aside from that difference, it's mostly...
How did you do this? You need both 24v and 12v right? I read you can't hook 2 batteries both in series and parallel. Are you using one 24v battery for the 24v side and one 12v battery for the 12v side of things?
Ahhhh ok thank you. I was beginning to suspect this may be the issue after reading in a different thread that overhead clearance is tight in there and that these had an extra post. Makes sense now.
Man this forum is great. While googling series parallel wiring in general, I was brought back to a Steelsoldiers thread which seems to answer my second question. Looks like you can't wire two 12v batteries both in series and parallel so the electrician is apparently right on that point...
I recently bought a 2012 MTV 6x6 on consignment at an expedition RV builder in MO. The batteries are toast and need to be replaced. The truck is currently at the RV builder pending the start of an RV build with them.
They just quoted me 3 to 4 hours of labor plus parts to replace the batteries...
It's $100k now or he's keeping, based on my conversation with him. He has a few other variants as well but would rather rent them out than sell them off.
According to the seller, it was made for the greek government, but due to their financial issues, they canceled the order or couldn't pay for it. It was on eBay a while back but didn't hit his reserve. He rents them for movies so isn't super motivated to sell it.
There is this brand new 2010 wrecker a guy here in CA has for sale. I was REALLY temped to buy it, but practically, the regular non armored version is a way better for building a camper. So tempting though...
The truck we are getting is Rodney's truck. The plan is to move the air intake and "relocate" the DPF so we can push the camper as close as possible against the back of the cab. It will be like this picture, but a couple feet shorter. Also will be a much nicer color (at least in my opinion).
