Starter Enguages in Run Position after R&R

Definitely have +24V voltage at the solenoid lead while in the “run” position”.

Starter Enguages in Run Position after R&R

Ring size is what I thought also, so yet another case where something went bad while working on another issue. ARGH! I'll test the starter switch... Thank you!

Starter Enguages in Run Position after R&R

Ok, I screwed up (again).I should have taken pictures and I would not have these issues. I removed the starter and put it back, but now the starter seems to run when in the run position! It did not do this before I started, so I am fairly confident it is the wiring at the starter that I just...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I often wonder why I subject myself to abuse trying to fix things I don't have a lot of experience fixing? I have been struggling to fix the HMMWV AC system. After replacing every single AC component in the AC system, some multiple times, it would blow cold for about 5 minutes and then hot...

Map of States That Are or Are Not HMMWV Friendly

Made this up based on the responses in this and other threads. I'll come back and update periodically, so if you have updates, please reply to this thread with the status of your state. Maybe one of the Mods can make this a sticky? Updated: 4/09/2025 OH - Hit or Miss, which is Not Friendly...

What are we doing for A/C and heat.

One recommendation - stay far clear of the Chinesium carp. There is someone selling the complete kit over in the Classifieds. I was thinking of getting that to replace the Chinesium crap I have but every time I save up enough dough, something goes on the fritz and the $ goes poof!

    DIY transmission rebuild

You sir, have some real chutzpah! Wrench turners like me could take it apart, but never in a billion years, get it back together - let alone have it work properly!

Did I toast my 6.2 engine somehow, and how do you jump a 24v HMMWV?

Yeah! Finally, my luck is turning better! It is fixed! I used the advice in this: After a lot of experimentation, I put two of the thickest half, cut-off shims on the outside of the starter, and it started right up, no grinding, and was much, much quieter than before on the original starter...

Did I toast my 6.2 engine somehow, and how do you jump a 24v HMMWV?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have some personal matters that eating up quite a lot of time. I was able to borrow a battery load tester so I did not have to remove and shelp those heavy things around. I tired each battery separately, and both together. And multiple times each. Disconnected...

Did I toast my 6.2 engine somehow, and how do you jump a 24v HMMWV?

When I crank the engine the fan moves a small amount and stops cold. Maybe a quarter turn at the most. Others time maybe one blade width. And then it grinds. I can turn the engine complete revolutions by hand with a breaker bar. Just frustrating as the socket keeps falling off the crank bolt as...

Did I toast my 6.2 engine somehow, and how do you jump a 24v HMMWV?

Today's update. I should have stated that both batteries are always on a NOCO dual bank trickle charger whenever parked. Not much progress as I did not have much time. I measured each battery and they were both over 13 volts. Did a jump on each battery, at the same time on both, and tried to...

Did I toast my 6.2 engine somehow, and how do you jump a 24v HMMWV?

Yep, for the cylinders with unremarkable glow plugs, that was my plan. But I don't understand one thing about a hydrolocked diesel I can turn the engine with a breaker bar on the crank multiple revolutions. It is not locked solid to the point I cannot turn it. So my question is if the valves...

Did I toast my 6.2 engine somehow, and how do you jump a 24v HMMWV?

Partial update as I spent several hours looking at things. So I did not expect and resolution and I was not disappointed :( I removed the torque converter inspection plates, or whatever you call them, and I did NOT note any missing teeth on the flexplate. I did note some minor evidence of...
