I am a second generation computer scientist.
I used to have an electric Nissan leaf and then I switch to a m998 humvee.
I was working at a compony that interfaced with the can bus, the brains of modern cars.
The can bus controls everything, but from my work on it it was extremely unstable and I started to not trust modern cars. My Nissan leaf felt like a scam with the maintenance repairs and greatly depreciated in value so I wanted a new car. I left that compony and started working at another,
I was looking at cars and I am a bit of a pepper so I was worried about EMP and my dad suggested to look at an older vehicle without computers and eventually I started looking into HUMVEEs. Then on Facebook market place there was a HUMVEE for $15k and I bought it.
After I bought that car my old company had an issue that they overloaded the can bus and the car stoped in the middle of the road. Luckily no one got hurt but they where also doing freeway testing and if it happened there then someone could have gotten serially hurt.
That was kinda a sign for me that this might be the best option, having a car that does not have a computer in it.... and this is coming from a computer scientist.
