Please identify the vehicle, the year of the vehicle, normally aspirated versus turbo charged, and lots of pictures help of the engine with the doghouse cover removed

Then, we are better able to assist you.

There are some excellent Hummer mechanics who also do Humvees however, their skills with Hummer frequently exceeded their skill with Humvees.

What I’m trying to say is sometimes it is best to do it yourself

You have of course changed the fuel filter, checked to make sure you have positive pressure at the fuel filter water drain and it has fresh fuel yes??
And yes give the model number and the history of the truck (as you know it)

Thank you for replying, its been blowing smoke ,sputtering and stalling now. It would we easier for me to talk on the phone EDITED , greatly appreciated.
Smoke. What color? White, black, blue, grey? It is a diesel, so some smoke is normal. Like @Mogman said, change the fuel filter and make sure there is good clean fuel in it. Also, MV gauges can be incorrect. Put at least 5 gallons in it.

Does it start hard, meaning does it crank an extended amount of time before it fires? When cranking, does it smoke, if so what color?

After it lites off and runs a bit, does it clean up, smooth out and if shut off, will it restart right away or does it take a long time to re start?

And, it is not a good idea to put your phone number up in a not private place like here in open forums.

I did some research on the interweb and made contact with this gentleman.

M1043 A2.

2001???

He has owned it since 2019 and has driven a few 1000 miles.

Currently, he loses power and gets black smoke at speed. He has swapped out a new fuel pump BUT didn’t know the trick to keep the pushrod up so it might be broken.

I had these symptoms and it was a clogged Cat. Could also be bad Diesel so I advised him to drain some from the water release valve into a cup and look at it.

Nice guy.

I have encouraged him to come back here and post more info, just in case I got this all wrong.
