m1070 no exhaust brake? and A/C?

Hi all- So I have a m1070. My exhaust brake is not kicking on. Anyone know where I should start with figuring out what my issue is? I flipped the switch which goes from low and high but there is no switch to turn off? I got the truck with 82 miles on it from auction and looks and starts etc but noticed when driving I don't hear the exhaust brake to kick on. My 5 ton (m925a2) is way easier to work on... haha

Second is I am pretty sure this thing has A/C which is on the roof. I think I am just missing the belt for this. I will post pictures later of the pulley missing a belt. Any insight would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance from everyone

M1070s don't have factory air conditioning, the box on the roof is a blower for air circulation.

There is a pulley on the front of the engine that has no belt.

The truck doesn't have an exhaust brake, it is an engine (Jacobs) brake. Not picking on your semantics, it may make finding information to fix the problem easier.

If the jakes aren't coming on the first place to check breaker if it's good. Move onto pull the dash where the parking brake valves are and make sure power is going thru that switch correctly. That's an interlock that will keep the pto off.

Thanks for the information....

on the truck it says "contains Refrigerant" when it was sold... i havn't looked too much into it because someone decided to hit me at 60mph... so now fixing parts on the truck and getting close to done... appreciate the insight and yes Jacobs brake. thx

I did check the breaker and it seemed good when tested. I also purchased a new breaker just incase and no difference. I mean the parking brake works but I will look this weekend and see if there is power to the switch. thanks for the input about the parking brake switch.

is there any way to plug a computer up to this and check/manual override to engage the jake brake (test it)? I saw when I popped- the fuse lid that there is a "dig plug" or any recommendations for a computer that will not break the bank and work with Oshkosh?...

Thanks

While I don't know a bunch about the 1070, I do know a bit about the jakes. Some things on that set up to look at, power, like others have said, if there is power, look at the trans lock up solenoid, if unplugged it will not complete the circuit, IIRC it is a normally open switch, you can just jump the wires to check if that is the issue, but the brakes, if they work when bypassed will kill the engine with the converter not in lock up. The throttle switch on the governor housing. This has an adjustment procedure, don't remember off the top of my bean what it is. The physical adjustment. I do know that if the clearance is even a bit too much, IIRC .052 or .054, they will not work. There are also pass through wires where the wires go through the valve covers. Look to make sure they are plugged in.

Sounds like I will make sure the wires on the engine is what I will check first. Haha. I check today. Thanks for the info…

It might be a good idea to make a visit to the TM section and find the TM that has the wiring diagram in it. Again, I do not know the HET, the above is a generic TS guide. There might be electronics involved, like DDEC or a trans TCU.

EDIT, Just looked at the HET via Wikipedia. It is indeed DDEC and TCU controlled.

No TCU but it is a DDEC IV system.

IIRC, DDEC still uses the switch up on the blower. Could be un plugged or out of adjustment or been removed.
