Starter Enguages in Run Position after R&R

Ok, I screwed up (again).I should have taken pictures and I would not have these issues.

I removed the starter and put it back, but now the starter seems to run when in the run position! It did not do this before I started, so I am fairly confident it is the wiring at the starter that I just did not hook back up correctly, and nothing to do with the switch.

So I was going off this part of the electrical diagram:

So I check my wiring of course. The starter seems to have three terminals:

  • Huge +24 Constant connector with a strap that runs up to the solenoid. To that I have 6A, 81A, 81B connected to the and it has constant +24V as expected.
  • Large Ground connector that has leads 3D, 7A and has constant ground
But there is something screwy with one of the two leads I think should go to the solenoid?
  • Third connector is the little screw on the solenoid. It had, I think, Two wire connected to it before - 74A&B. 74A, the larger gauge wire, has +24V when the switch is in the run position? That does not seem right? I would think it would have +24 when in the Start position only? The other lead is not energized when in the run position.

Thanks in advance!

Ring size is what I thought also, so yet another case where something went bad while working on another issue. ARGH!

I'll test the starter switch... Thank you!

check for voltage at the solenoid lead while in the “run” position”, check that the start switch wires are plugged in correctly, there are only 3 and one is “Ribbed”, making it only having to figure out 2.
