Sounds good Scoobyshep. I'll stick with 4.
Any reason to connect the ground at the ground lug rather than at L0 with the neutral? I'm thinking it would be easiest to share L0 rather than strip the extra wire to get to the grounding lug, plus I have the solid copper connected there and was...
Thank you all! Oops, yes I definitely meant 100 Amp panel and not watt o_O
So would there be any difference running a 3 wire cable from the generator to the main panel or is it just good practice to stick with the 4 wire?
Chainbreaker, I appreciate your reminder about not setting it up as a...
I've read the incredibly informative sticky on grounding an MEP-003a. I have a specific question about my setup though and want to make sure I get it right. I have a woodworking shop an hour from where I live with no grid power and no other buildings on the property. I'm planning to use my...
Man, I'm glad my plunger and pump ended up being in ok shape. I had no idea anything but the Ambac M50 were used. Just for educational sake and the future in case I do encounter any problems I'm wondering what the exact differences are. Do you have pictures you can show? Does it seem that the...
Thanks again for your post @Guyfang I'm truly learning something every time someone posts.
I like having the ASK and think I will be able to get by with it but just in case, what would the old covers be? I received the unit with the ASK installed so don't know it any other way. Looking at the...
Chainbreaker, thanks for the info. I'll have to pay attention to any heat build up as I begin to use it. I don't really need the ASK where I'm at but of course it's nice. If my loads are on the high end I would definitely consider removing it to keep the temps down. I'd like to build a cover of...
Guyfang, thank you for the tip! I was going off of what I read in TM 5–6115-584-12 Chapter 2 page 2-2. For Operating Procedures it says to "open air intake access door on ASK" Am I interpreting it wrong maybe or am I supposed to close it at some point? Thank you, Jonathan
Thanks Chainbreaker. I was a little concerned with the smoke too but it cleared right up after the oil and fuel filters were changed. I was actually surprised at the difference. I'm sure the seafoam and load couldn't hurt though and will plan to do that. Here it is running after the filters and...
Ray,
That's what I was afraid of :( Well, once I get my wiring in I'll give it a shot and see what it will and will not start. It's wayyyy better than nothing though!! (y):p
I've been looking forward to writing this post for over a year...I had success this weekend and was able to get the generator running for the first time! :) I'm super excited. This genset will be used to power my woodworking workshop where I don't have access to grid power so I'm pretty happy to...
Thanks again Ray, I'm really anxious to take a look now. I wish the genset wasn't an hour drive away but I'll take a good look this weekend and snap some pictures.
Ray,
The clouds are starting to part :) I think you are right on, no parts diagram ever shows the delivery valve as a 2-piece part. I borrowed some pictures from this thread of an IP rebuild and put some descriptions of what I see on them...
Ray, this is a little perplexing, the little hole I'm describing is definitely a hole because I was able to stick a small piece of metal into it and it's about 1/16" in diameter. It also is definitely behind the delivery valve holder but that could have just been me putting it back together...
Ray,
Thank you again for the detailed reply. I do have the parts diagram and followed along with what you described. The delivery valve "needle" that sits inside #34 is what I am missing. I'm pretty sure I am missing the plastic spacer (#35) as well but that might be stuck in there still when I...
@jamawieb thanks for clarifying that! Makes a lot of sense now. I will definitely check the plunger and do the flow test this weekend while waiting for a new delivery valve assembly.
Jonathan
Ray,
Thanks for the info. I'm learning a bit more each step of the way. I will get a hold of Ambac about the delivery valve. I'm not positive that I have confirmed the plunger is moving freely. I thought I did previously but I'm not 100% sure. I've taken the spring out and delivery valve...
I was finally able to get back to the generator and installed the rebuilt injectors from @Ray70. When Ray got the injectors he said that "Neither of them were stuck closed, but both have problems. Both were opening at around 1000 -1200 PSI instead of the required 1950 psi. Also, one of them is...
