Thanks. If you look at Page 31, post 306, you'll see the kludge I have in place. I tried a bunch of combinations of trimming and torturing the cucv hose. My alternator belt eventually eats through them. I spoke to a radiator shop who was willing to build me a custom hose. I haven't gotten...
Thanks WARWAG. Fuse block is my next stop.
I don't have the DUVAC. I have an original 24V alternator below, and a leece 12V above. That 12V bolted right in and used the same pulley, but it won't move left far enough that I can get a belt on it. If I use a belt I can install, I don't have...
I'm back at it, after some health setbacks. Current project is an electrical issue. I seem to have lost many of the 12v systems. I get power from the battery, through the fusable link, through the first to components on the firewall. When I turn the key, I get lights associated with 24V...
I don't even own ether.
My problems were several bad IPs, then loose fuel connections that either allowed air into the fuel lines or fuel out of the fuel lines or both. Once we installed a good IP with tight lines, all was well. My problem was inadequate experience. When I installed a brand...
The truck is running now. New shocks fixed the death wobble. The original shock bushings were shot.
I finally found a shop that handles heavy diesels. I pulled into the lot and it was full of big dump trucks etc. They got my IP working properly, with no fuel or air leaks.
I know the 6.2...
I have 0.5GPM @ 10PSI fuel delivery to the filter from the electric pump, plus whatever the mechanical pump adds to that. It's a new filter with ~7 miles on it. The engine cranks vigorously but does not start. The injectors are ~2 yrs old, Bosch, with 18K miles on them. The IP has 12V on the...
No. I wasn't sure what to do next, so I put the electric pump between the manual pump and the filter. When disconnected from the filter, That electric pump outputs half a gallon per minute. I think that means my sock's OK, right? I would think that 0.5 GPM into the filter at 10PSI would be...
Yes, I see the usual voltage drop when the glow plug controller turns on the glow plugs. When I had a GP Controller failure, I could still start without glow plugs. It took extra cranking, especially if it was cold, but it reliably started. Now it cranks happily, but I get no hint of ignition.
The shim was there on the old starter. I re-used it. I'll need to pull the cover and measure to see if it's really required, but the starter works great.
We undercoated the truck before moving it north to New England winters. Perhaps that's the oil leak you mention? New IP is certainly a...
Thanks all.
I got a new direct drive starter from Hillbilly Wizard. I put it in today and it works great. The truck still doesn't start, but the starter cranks beautifully and it makes no nasty grinding noises. I'm hating Napa right now. The flex wheel teeth I could see looked undamaged...
But the fuel pump is upstream of the filter, so the filter is under pressure, not vacuum, so any leak there would leak fuel out, not air in, right? I thought air leaking in happened between the tank and the pump, where the pressure is negative... When the engine is at idle, does the IP suck...
My daughter went to grad school, so the CUCV is mine for a while longer. I installed a ham radio rig, since she spends so much time far beyond cell phone range. I got that working pretty well, and then the fuel system started acting up. The engine "stumbled" a few times one day, then it...
"Hey Dad, can I borrow the truck?" "Sure", I say. Then somebody sends me this video. SS-relevant part starts at 1:15.

This one is compact and relatively inexpensive. It uses a screw, not a hammer. You hold the blue part with a box or socket wrench and drive the screw with a 3/8 socket or impact wrench. I looked at the hydraulic ones. They look great for someone who does a lot of crimping. For the...
I clean & abrade the surfaces with a stainless steel brush, coat generously with no-ox-id, and crimp firmly. Some folks use an impact wrench on the crimper. I've never felt the need to do that. You can over-crimp and fatigue the wire, making it mechanically more likely to fail. The tool is...
