Thanks guys,
I wanted to make sure no would get electrocuted during test run.
Got fuel in it, oil in it, all filters new and in place so time to put a pair of batteries on and fire it up!
Very important question. Can we start and test run an MEP003 to make sure it runs, has oil pressure etc without having it grounded. It is setting on a military generator trailer in a driveway.
Thanks Gimpy
May be worth something as parts as it seems there are alot of replies to guys parting out units. Might go the log splitter route with it as well.
MEP from GL with dry clean fuel tank, new looking air filter, new looking oil filter and reading 16 hours on meter. Do you think we are looking at a unit from a rebuild? Did not know how to get the fuel filter metal cans off to look at the fuel filters or see if they are in place. What do you...
If you did not have a place to get it off the road I was going to invite you to bring it out to my place. Sounds like you are in good shape though. I have a couple of miles of logging trails through the forest with some good hills etc.
Thanks Gimpy,
Always wished I would have found this site before getting rid of an 003 I had a few years back that was not behaving properly. I am a south east of cinci and live off grid in Brown County OH. Now looking at purchasing another 003.
The vast majority of posts on SS is due to someone having an issue they are trying to fix on a genset. It then gives the impression that everyone who has a genset has a problem. I am looking at purchasing an 003. What is the general feeling once you have one running correctly?
A friend has an MEP 002a that he picked up. It will start fine and runs for several minutes and maybe as long as a half hour and then will shut down. no rough running just goes from running to not running. Checked the high temp shut off by jumpering it and placing in hot peanut oil and doing...
I also have a GSC 300 on my civilian Isuzu powered genset.
In theory it should work but you will need to have a 24 V model.
The GSC 300 will apply 12V (you will need the 24V model) first and coninuously to the fuel pump. This is done via the prime and run switch on the MEP sets.
After...
In my case I think it tripped after priming and preheating when you went to actually start the engine. I wish like **** I would have kept it after finding this resource.
gimpyrobb,
Thanks for the heads up on the 002a. I have a unit coming from Louisville region that I have agreed to buy. Unit runs perfect with low hours and came from the owners national guard unit so we know the history on it.
M38, Did your Isuzu unit come from central maine diesel? That is where I bought mine.
Carl and gl, I no longer have the 003a. I wish I did. With the expertise available here and the manuals on line I may well have got that beast back up and running.
jbk,
I don't run any AC off of battery power. I have got 6500 watts of solar panels on my roof.
In the morning we charge the battery bank full from any overnight usage of lights/refrigeration.fans.
Then turn on the two 12000 btu window units and still make excess amps for battery charging...
I had a MEP003a that ran great. I started it one day and all was well. Shut it down and went to start it the next day....DC circuit breaker would trip when you would attempt to crank. Has anyone seen this and if so recall what the cause was?
