thanks for the advice, i have not tried turning the motor by hand, what was the crank nut size? 1 5/8 or 1 9/16 or something? what are some possible causes for large amounts of drag on the motor? maybe a siezed compressor, or tranny, or engine bearings? ill go take the starter to a shop and have...
ive had this problem with my duce that is really kicking my butt ever since i first got it. Ive never even driven it because something is seriously wrong with my starting circut. Im on my 3rd set of batts because they keep frying when i try to crank it. First the starter solenoid stuck and...
I put my starter back together and exchanged my 600cca deep cycles for these 725 cca batteries. I hooked everything up and hit the starter. the engine turned over slowly for a few seconds then i stopped. waited a few seconds and then hit it again. "clunk" and nothing except a weird groaning...
the injectors are not even installed yet, so it wouldnt even crank the motor without compression
does anyone know what size the crank bolt is? 1 5/8 or something?
the starter solenoid got stuck and i think it fried the starter and batteries. everything got very hot and the terminals melted. I replace the batteries and removed the starter. The copper contacts had welded themselves to the disc in the solenoid which provides power to the cranking motor. i...
I live in California also and when i went to the DMV they told me it was going to cost over $600 to register and that i would need a commercial licence. Maybe there is something i dont know about, i didnt ask about the historical vehicle title, and i would really like to find a way to avoid...
Im having problems getting my duce running. I hooked up some batteries and turned the accessory switch on and got the buzzer, which i then disconnected. I cranked the engine over a little but even without the injectors installed, the starter was struggling to turn the motor. After a few seconds...
After replacing my head gaskets i torqued them to 158 ft/lbs because thats what the instructions that came with the gasket said to do.
Later i found in a manual for the LDT that the torque is only 130 lbs. I think that maybe the 158 spec is for another engine that uses the same head gasket?
so...
if you need to torque your heads, that tool is a must have. I was able to get the heads off without it but there is no way to torque the bolts the the 130 or 158 ft/lbs required.
that reminds me, i torqued mine to 158 because thats what it said on the paper that came with the gasket but i later...
i went to the DMV the other day and they want around $600 bucks to register my duce! This seems like way too much. Anybody know of a way to bring the price down? I dont really want to go with the historical vehicle plates because i want to use the truck for commercial purposes.
i got a complete top end gasket kit from memphis equipment, but it was a bit pricey. im sure just the valve cover gaskets would be fairly cheap. http://www.memphisequipment.com/
i bashed my radiator the otherday on my winch trying to remove it without first removing the fan. ill probably just repair it but if you find a good source of radiators in CA let me know!
i need to adjust my valves too as soon as i get the rocker assembly back on, i dont know what the procedure is but i did find
"valve clearance (cold)"
intake: .010
exhaust: .025
hope this helps, all I need to know now is how to position the crankshaft for each piston.
you do need a class B licence for 3 axles in CA if the truck weighs over 6000 lbs. Maybe if you register it as historical vehicle and they think its under 6k lbs? sounds risky though.
I had similar problems when picking up my duce from a naval airfield in Imperial Beach, Ca. (right next to the Tiajuana, Mexico border)
Bad directions led me to a open gate which read "Authorized Personel Only" but i figured that i was probably authorized so went right ahead. I found myself at...
I was installing my new head gaskets on my duce and then i noticed some tiny cracks on all of the pistons!
These cracks were very small, maybe only 3-5 mm in length and they were all in the same spot; on the top sharp edge of the bowl in the...
yes, im pretty sure that every heavy truck must go through inspection in California. I dont have the SF97. Is it something that i can just download or do i need to get it mailed to me from GL?
Hey this reminds me, i still need to register my duce. I live in California so what should i tell them when i go to register it? Appearantly i need a Class B licence to drive anything with dual rear axles over 6000lbs. Any chance i...
I have been a tire technician at Discount Tire co. for 4 years but i have never worked on a split rim because it is against company policy I have heard many stories about rings shooting through shop roofs and deaths by decapitation etc... so...
