My MEP-003 runs my whole house (all electric 3000 sq ft). I have a 5 ton heat pump & Hybrid hot water heater. There is some load management but if it's summer time we don't use the range/oven and do not use the dryer while on gen power. With everything on in the house beside range/dryer & AC...
My dad has 2 MEP-002, one at the shop and one at his house just over the Wisc boarder. He runs Rotella Synthetic 5W-40, Summer and Winter with no issues. Last winter his house MEP ran for 15 hours straight in an outage and the oil is still was like new this spring, also didn't change the air...
My choice was a new a Square D 40-Circuit 20-Space 200-Amp All-in-One/Combination Main Breaker Load Center Value Pack (http://www.lowes.com/pd_286869-296-RC2040M200CGP_4294722482__?productId=3366856&Ntt=square+d&Ns=p_product_price|1), $200 @ Lowes, less than that with the 10% military discount...
I used a cheap Harbor Freight engine cherry picker to take it off the trailer. To move it around to the pad (MEP-003) I used 4 pieces of 4" PVC pipe and my riding lawn mover.
Anyone attending the Ga rally that will be traveling close to NW FL or S Alabama (150 mile from Pensacola/Ft Walton) that could bring back some panel for a MEP-003 generator? Let me me know.
Thanks-
Chris
Is anyone heading up to the rally that is with in 150 mile of Pensacola/Ft walton area? I need an ASK kit for a generator brought back, but have to work... Willing to pay with Beer or $.
Thanks
My in-laws have been running my spare MEP003 since last Friday in North AL. The cheap gas 8K set they had died after 20 hours of running and they paid $700 for it... Father in law changed oil yesterday, and it's running just about thier whole house and burning right at 1 GH.
My mom's will smoke for about 3 minutes (1100 hrs), mine smokes for about 1-2 minutes also (60 hrs).
They clear up and run fine with no smoke after that. I put about 1/2 qt of 2 stroke oil in the tank to keep everything lubed up and also run seafoam and diesel kleen.
The meter is a replacement and is a regular % meter off the net.
Voltage drop was about 3v, I keep the unit at 62hz and 120v. Under load it was at 119.4v. My local power is 59.5hz and 115v so I'm sure I'm good.
I have a whole house line conditioner and surge suppressor. TV's & PC's...
I put it thru it paces today. With everything on in the house, 2 fridges, upright freezer, 2 under counter ice makers, ceiling fans, computers, hot water heaters etc it barely registered on the load meter and stayed right around 62hz. With it running the 5 ton AC, it ran steady at 50% power...
The pad is ~4" thick, I used a post hole digger to dig down and encased the entire bolt in concrete and put mesh in the pad so I don't think the pad will crack or bolts move in the sandy soil. It was a little overkill, but I hated carrying & mixing the 20- 80# bags and only wanted to do it once.
They sell them at Lowes. They are like the "L" bolts used in concrete but are "S" shaped. They are used in FL to give extra holding power due to hurricane building code. I'll try to get a picture.
Yes. I did mean switched neutral. Thanks for the info. Do I need to worry that my "hold down" bolts could causing a secondary ground like attaching a ground rod?
