What exactly is this on the + bus terminal? Silicone?

You would be well advised to keep the Silicone on the lug connections, there is a lot of amps running through them and having them exposed where something metal could possibly come in contact with them would create quite a mess. 3-5 times a week I remove the Slave connector power lead on this...

    Gauge lights

Most early trucks including A2 used a clear incandescent bulb and the color comes from the dash cap color, you can get green, red, blue and clear…later model trucks upgrade to colored LED and clear dash bulb cap. If you want white light? Go to clear lens with clear LED, we used to drill holes in...

    Electrical Gremlins. HMMWV M1097R1.

the Chinese used to knock them off and only put the MS number on them, they were devoid of cage codes and other US company marking, even the NSN, now? They don’t give a s**t, I’ve seen chinese WS washer assy’s that even copy the cage codes…i only Try to use CARC painted and easily identifiable...

    Electrical Gremlins. HMMWV M1097R1.

No idea, but most sold on eBay and from all these hmmwv parts sellers are Chinese knock off, the only way to tell for sure On the 3 lever switch is the paint “CARC” and proper stencil of Date, cage code and date, anything else is aftermarket. Which is why I asked where it was purchased from...

    serpentine belts

The proper belt is determined by the pulley, not the truck model or generator type, a -3 is for a clutch pulley equipped truck.

    M1165 400 Amp Generator questions

First off, your generator has a soft start feature, it does not go to full charging in 2 seconds, it can be as long as 30 second before it settles into the green, its completely norma. 2nd, Dont turn on the AC until until the generator is in the green, the Newer gold label thermostatic flow...

6.5L GEP - Black Smoke when accelerating

You don’t know very much about diesels but you’re inclined to believe having the wrong pump is ok? alrighty than…. Its not totally uncommon to see the wrong application pump in a hmmwv and it runs…my observation is that of a technical one, my shop would never install that pump on that engine…
  16. Retiredwarhorses

6.5L GEP - Black Smoke when accelerating

correct, 6278 is just a newer pump model, it replaced the 5209… as far as “what does it mean”? It means you have the wrong pump per the application chart/TM for that motor…what I’ve generally found on the 4879 pump is when used in a 6.2 before 1990 1/2 model engine, is the timing has to be...

White or Blue smoke after it warms up?

Just drive it till it blows…some blow by is just fine, ive seen brand new motors with blow by till they are worn in. blue smoke is oil…so valve guide seals generally the culprit, once hot and the seal expands, it goes away. what the timing set at?
  20. Retiredwarhorses

6.5L GEP - Black Smoke when accelerating

may simply be normal, but retarded pump timing, clogged catalytic converter, failing turbo charger…all produce black exhaust. question is, just how bad is it? These older IDI motors will produce black smoke faintly under load and snapping accelerator. these aren’t like modern diesel’s of today...
