I left the end off my M54a2 one time and forgot about it for a while and when I remembered the squirrels had filled it with acorns. I never did that again.
Five ton parts are just big and heavy, but I like em. When I bought the M54a2 as a parts truck, but it turned out to be too good to scrap, just red. I did buy a spare LDS 4651a though.:driver:
Yes they use it for boiler fuel mixed in with bunker oil. The holes in the burner heads are approximately 1/8" in dia so the pigments are not problem for them. The oil in oil based paints is Linseed oil.
It's not really freezing in the sense of water freezing. What it's doing is dropping below the flock point. That's the point the parafin in diesel drops out of solution and forms a solid. Additives work by lowering the flock point, or warm it up and get it back above the flock point.
I've...
I though long and hard about going with dual circuts( although I was thinking front axle and front tandom on one and rear tandom for the 2nd). But that was just another project to put on the list. I decided to leave it alone until I'm rich and famous since I only operate off road. If I was going...
I think they're referring to current specific auctions being banned.
I see older quipment at GSA auctions all the time as previously stated comming from Forestry and fire department turnins. I got my M51A2 from a GSA auction, it was from a guard unit right down the road, just out of service...
The parking brake on my M51A2 won't hold on much of an incline even with new shoes and adjusted to spec. I tend to park on grades with the front bumper against a tree, plenty of those and I never pushed one over.
My chocks are wooden, cut out of solid pieces of Juniper.
I have one of those plastic tanks set up for a forklift with a metal frame for storage. I save all my oil and hydraulic fluid from my vehicles and the occasional donation from family/friends. I made an adapter for the bottom valve to hook up to my pump/filter setup to fuel the trucks. I...
I would push it through the filters rather than suck it through, if the filters block the pump will cavate if it's centrifigual or run dry if positive displacement and damage the pump. I would go through the waterseperator first, that's what the trucks do and I'm sure there was a reason for...
The last time I checked here in MO they called it a Mixers License and charged $75 a year and didn't require records be kept. This was a couple of years ago, I decided not to bother because I only use my vehicles off road anyway.:roll:2cents
If you read my post again you will see I was referring to an M54 A2 which has the LDS 465 1A. The combination of 2.5 ton springs in the front for a less jarring ride and 5 ton front springs in the back would have given the ability of still carring something besides air in the bed. I decided...
I don't see why engine weight is an issue, an LDS 465 is the same engine weither it's an a, c,or d turbo. If anything I think the loading on a 5 ton chassis would be less on the front springs simply because the engine sits more to the rear than on a 2.5 with respect to the axle. That's why you...
What kind of maximum lift capacity do you think they could handle if it was mounted on the front of a 4000# capacity all terrain forklift with a gross weight of 12,000 #s? I'm looking for an 18' lifting height and a weight capacity around 1000 #s. The forks have a max lift of 8', and I'm...
When I was thinking about bobbing the M54a2 I was thinking of using the 2.5 ton springs in front and the front 5 ton springs in the rear. Then I decided not to bob it.
I've driven a jeep without the rear drive shaft, no problem. I don't think I'd try to drive one of my 5 tons that way, I'm not sure it would even move except on pavement.
I use a steep hill out in the woods, just try to go up forward or reverse. If the front axle engages I can go up or down.:roll:That way I don't need a second person to watch the front wheels.
