The dreaded CTIS seal, bearing repack job on my MTV

Good question. Leaks of gear oil into the CTIS system is a clue. I found this in mine. If you are in there, you might as well change them, as they are not that expensive, just a PITA is all.

Looking for Someone to Fabricate a Roof Rack for My LMTV

Look at how a branch from a tree sweeps across the truck front, and it will make sense. You want to keep things that sweep from connecting with the windshield with any degree of force. I show more when I make mine.

Looking for Someone to Fabricate a Roof Rack for My LMTV

I agree with with CoachGeo. I would say this as well. When you have one fabricated, make sure that there are adequate protections for that windshield. The ones I have seen thus far do not do enough. When I build mine it will be better thought out than what I have seen. Windshield can be hard...

ABS...... advantage... disadvantage in FMTV.... your educated info appreciated

The ABS truck will not necessarily stop at a shorter distance, BUT it will stop straight typically. In fact, stopping distance may even be longer. All it does is pulse the brakes to stop a lock up at the wheel. Concur with comment about experienced vs inexperienced drivers. There was a very...

Towing an Off Road / Overland FMTV

It is kind of stunning when you look at a HMMWV compared to even an A0 FMTV.

Towing an Off Road / Overland FMTV

I do have some good news though. Some people are born with 3 kidneys.

Towing an Off Road / Overland FMTV

Interesting discussion. There is another thread about why there are so few that Overland in an FMTV at this point. If it dies, it will cost you. Ideas: - Do you have a network of FMTV or military truck owners within 100 miles? There are a lot of good guys out there that might be able to help...

WHO' S A FULL TIME LMTV OVERLANDER, ANY OUT THERE?

This is exactly what I am saying. You can do it yourself (and save thousands) , BUT you must spend hundreds of hours scanning every tid bit of information in maintenance, let alone doing the work and paying for the tools and parts. This why I outlined the failure points of the 3116.

    Caterpillar Mechanical Unit Injector tooling

If you can get ahold of a Meyer-Carpenter 3116 adjustment kit, they are MUCH easier than the CAT version to set up the rack.

    Caterpillar Mechanical Unit Injector tooling

Is that a working crane attached to that M1082? (y)

    Caterpillar Mechanical Unit Injector tooling

Are you saying you need a tool to pull the injectors on a 3116? Or do need a puller plus the rack adjustment tools? Some people make their own tools to save money.

NOS rear brake chamber storage questions

Diaphragms are inexpensive. I keep them in both sizes. You already know the precautions with brake cans.
