My M51A2 did that when I first got it, did all the usual suspects, made no difference. It eventually fixed itself, maybe because I started running WMO? Don't know, but I'm running 100% WMO and it hasn't done it in years. Go figure!
I must be blind or sumptin' even with the search I can't find the front gin poles in the 10 manual. I found the rear gin poles for the pipe line truck, but not front ones.
Also what is the smallest diameter snatch block you can use with the winch? I haven't found a military one and was...
I recently found a site with a welding rod made to remove broken bolts or plugs from cast iron. This was on an old tractor site. I've been thinking of trying it on some of my projects:Handbook - Metal Removal Electrodes
Anyone seen, heard of, or tried it'
I been thinking about getting one...
Sorry to hear about your finger and no insurance, both suck. I've seen too many people lose fingers in all kinds of equipment. I still have all my digits in spite of my screen name wdbtchr(woodbutcher without the vowels). I do have an interesting scar on my right shin from a close encounter...
I came across this thread while researching gin poles. My M54 has 1/2" rebar welded to the bumper ends, have no idea when it was added. I got it from a GSA auction of returned Forestery trucks. It was used for a brush fire support tanker by the Dolittle, MO fire dept. Apparently didn't help...
Interesting, any idea how much the front of a duece weights? I curious how you attached the cables in the rear of your truck. I have a 5 ton dump and was wondering if I could use the attachment points at the top of the tail gate which are free now since I'm using the "rocker' setup. Would...
I think he's asking which forum his questions belong in: 5-ton and up
Welocme to the madness, love those big trucks.:-D My wife's sister lives in the land down under.
I'm really not into guns over .30 caliber, but I'm curious that someone would try to repair any weapon that's been cut or demilled and actually fire it, and then talk about it in public? I guess that's why we need rules in the first place.
The problem with mounting the plates on the mud flap in my case of an M51A2 is that if you dump a load and forget to pull forward before you drop the bed it'll rip them suckers off. Go ahead ask me how I know. My flaps are mounted on hooks made from chain, if I'm going to be hauling a...
Too bad Epay wasn't around in those days, could have sold them in lots of 5 or 10 and made a lot more that scrap prices. Oh well, we can only dream now. Probably sold the lot to some developer for cheap to build another empty shopping center, that's progress?
Fabbing a set
I have a question about the pipe you used for your gin poles, you said you used drill pipe I think, did you use that because it was available or for structural reasons? Of all the junk I have laying around the only pipe I have on hand is some short peices(around 6 or 7 feet) of 2...
Sounds like a plan to me. I find anything that burns will work. I've been running virtually straight WMO for about 2 years now with no problems. About the only thing I haven't tried is brake flulid. DOT 3 would probably mix with any coolant and settle I would think, and I wouldn't expect to...
As I said in my first message I'm looking for a better PARKING brake, and the M51 has the same brakes as an M35, air over hydraulic. The mechanical parking brake won't hold while dumping on a hill even with new parts, I've already redone the parking brake.
The problem isn't the calipher and...
I saw this while surfing on Epay and wondered if anyone had any experience with them. Looks like they are aimed at the off road rock crawler market, but I'm thinking more of a parking brake on my M51. Thoughts

Looking at the closeups it definitely multi fuels, however they apprear to be used take outs. Notice the rust, corrosion, and assorted damage to various plarts. Still seems such a waste even if they're not new.
