I'm beginning to wonder if anything is made in the US anymore. I got some Federal Mogul bearings the other day, were made in China. I wish there was someplace that listed US made stuff.
Prices vary widely, mainly by condition of truck but also in how scarce in any given area. I paid $6300 for mine in Springfield, IL. A lot for me, but not when considered for what I got. I got basically a turnkey vehicle recently out of the IL National Guard, the only defects were no spare...
RE: anti corrosion battery terminals
I've always used Dow Corning Stopcock Grease, clean the post and clamp and apply liberally and it will still be shiny when the battery dies.
We used a lot of SS in heat exchangers in the Chem Industry mainly due to corrosion, they work good. I am curious what alloy they are, and it would take a big hole to install them in a tank.
RE: Oil Level
Does using John's spin on filter adaptors change the cold level since they don't leak down? I've been thinking of changing to the spin-ons the next time I change oil and wondered.
RE: Re: RE: 1979 5-ton - on demand 4-wheel drive
I had the same problem with both my 5 tonners,'65 m51a2 and '67 m54a2. In both cases it was the air valves on the shifter. My sprags engaged only in reverse, the seat in the forward valve was worn too deep to allow air to pass. I got kits from...
I had some old stuff, probably 15 to 20 years old, that broke up into small pieces and settled to the bottom of the sleeve. It still worked, just harder to use.
RE: Pros and cons
From what I've found in research for my 580 Case backhoe that uses 1210 TCH, the main difference in hydraulic fluid is the addition of anti-foam agent.
Just out of curiosity does the 10W oil for power steering pumps call for nondetergent oil. I ask because when I get my replacement powersteering pump on, I'm going to have to refill it. I've been meaning to try to look this up but I'm waiting for the weather to warm up before tearing into it...
RE: Re: sleeper
Depending on my son's work schedule, count us as probable. I don't suppose there's any kind of motels in resonable driving distance around there? I really hate camping, especially if it rains.
I'm getting ready to scrap out an '89 Suburban body in St. Louis, MO. It's got cancer in the lower parts, but the top is in pretty good shape. If anyone near by wants to play around and try it, let me know.
How do you adjust the brakes? Is there a manual that covers this? I want to check the brakes and check the brake shoes on my M51A2 but haven't yet for lack of information.
