this was actually on a 5 ton im not sure about doing this for a road truck or for one this big but it wouldnt be neat for a trail rig. when i get done bobbing my next big truck im going to have a rear springpack and an axle im not doing anything with might be something fun to tinker with. im...
Thanks Gatos, funny i saw a post of your on expedition portal a while back.... small internet world huh. Ill have to read more about that set-up ive never seen it before. Would save allot of time on bobbing a rig
The 'How to Bob it" has me more intrested. I just saw pics from a guy who just cut the other axle free. Which sounds really dangerous until i thought about it. Isnt that basically the same setup that older jeeps used (mighty mite)used? Just thinking out loud and really do want to hear how other...
ive been kinda kicking around the same idea. I think im going to get that 12V fan unit that circulates air out of a beer cooler. Im not sure what ill end up doing but didnt someone on here have the red dot unit in the classifieds.
I did one in a M715 posted it under electrical upgrades, got it from M-Series rebuilders and posted a step-by-step. The only thing you need to do different is run the wires ON TOP of the plate that mounts the unit not under. If you search under postings by me youll find it. M-Series rebuilders...
I was thinking more along the lines of a Camper trailer to fit a M101 or M105 trailer. That way I can park it out of the way when im not using it. Im going to build one when i get back from overseas next month using the rough deminsions from a S250 shelter but made from insulated pywood form...
and the IRON BUTT of the week award goes to..........:driver:
great recovery, good pics, a few comments from the peanut gallery, your on your way to a full blown addiction. Welcome to the club with the rest of us lunatics...LOL:cookoo:
I really like the truck, 65 in a military vehicle would...
wow did they really add a padded armrest on the battery box? Thats tacky.....
that is probably the straightest M715 ive ever seen, that fire dept took great care of it. You are a good paintjob away from a restored MV
ive restored one, got it now, not a bad truck to work on and a good first MV. dead reliable engine when you replace the fuel pump and ignition. unstoppable drivetrain. mine gets around 11 mpg when empty. max speed is only about 55 though and i have the 16 inch michelins from the LAV's. one of...
my buddy rick is selling his in west tennessee. he would take around 4000. everything works, front and rear winch, attachments, ect. Gas engine 52 model i think but not sure. it is a tank recovery vehicle though
im officially dittoing the Unimog 404..... I loved mine all i ever did to it was change the oil and put in an electronic ignition. when i sold it (mistake) it was driven from west tennessee to eastern north carolina
Personally I would get rid of the CUCV. Look on the board postings. Seems like more than half are problems related to the M1008, M1009 series trucks.
I think they are crap personally, sell it and get a more reliable vehicle.
and before anyone starts I LOVE chevy trucks but the 6.2 L diesel...
congrats on the recovery as eventful as it is. This is one of the reasons why i stay with this forum, Most of us have never met but i wouldnt hesitate to help out anyone who needed it while they were passing through this area.
I like the idea of having breakdowns be a sticky until resolved...
i wasnt aware that mil vehicles didnt shake bounce and squeal at speed.... not being a smarta** i promise but all of them are a bit rough at higher speeds. hard tires, hard suspension, ect
it took all of about 30 minutes... or two beers depending onhow you gauge time...:-D
i posted the step-by-step of how i did it.
