What to look for when purchasing a Deuce and a Half

WOW , that's a tall order , top down or bottom up , doesn't matter , but like anything else , body , engine , driveline , look for rust under the fenders , cab , windshield frame , cargo body . Check for obvious oil/fluid leaks and CONDITION , brakes , lights working . Check front axle boots ...

Fan blade broke, Pain in Pennsylvania

You are VERY LUCKY , years ago Ford vehicles had the exact same problem , a neighbor was inspecting his Ford vehicle to pin down a strange noise , fan blade let go , went in his chest almost killed him . I believe there was a recall for the fan blades cracking . After 50-60 years probably not a...

    Green Truck Gasses

IN my state (NY) there is a yearly emission inspection in the NYC area for HD diesels , upstate there is no diesel emissions testing AT THIS TIME . However there is always the "smoke test" for all HD vehicles which is done by NYSP or DOT at a road stop . Right now there is only safety...

    CUCV oil pump acting funny??

If the engine does indeed have low oil pressure , a rebuilt oil pump will probably not fix it . You need to start thinking crankshaft and bearing clearance . I have been rebuilding engines a LONG time ,and I have YET to find a engine complaint of LOP fixed by just a new oil pump . You are losing...

    knocking noise

Look for rust around the u joint caps , best way is to pull the drive shaft and check for any loose or binding U joints . As for your other noise , time to get up close and personnel with your CUCV , check EVERYTHING since this vehicle is NEW to you , if nothing else for YOUR piece of mind and...

45 PSI for highway is about it , rim is only safe for 60 PSI , you were VERY LUCKY on the drive home . You need to read all the TM's on these vehicles . BTW , as stated , you either have a leaking valve stem and/or O ring leaking , get used to it , common problem on this type of wheel and tire...

    M35A3 Owners unite

I would give your truck a flush and refill . You should buy your anti freeze at NAPA or a Truck parts dealer , for two reasons , first , you will need a LOT , and second , you need HD anti freeze for a diesel engine , not the crap at Wal-Mart , very important for corrosion control in that...

    M35A3 Owners unite

Is the fan coming on ? make sure the fan clutch is working as it should . How does the coolant look ? make sure it is clean or else flush and change . BTW , with a 195 thermostat it would run about that temp . If you let it idle what is the temp ?

    Alternator #1 no light

Throwing parts at your MV is a crap shoot at best , as they say take the time to read the TM's . It is not a difficult system to diagnosis once you get a understanding of it . Those GM alternators are some of the easiest to rebuild and parts are available . Just get yourself a decent VOM and you...
