That was MY thought also , How did that pass a DOT check , when you carry passengers that brings in STATE and FEDERAL DOT rules and regs . They are very serious when it comes to basic safety items , If it would have came my way for a safety check , after I stopped laughing , I would have...
I agree YkDave , The problem as I see it is they put unsuspecting tourists in danger , bad enough WE do it to ourselves with our MV's at times , but those people put tourists lives in there hands over some halfa_ _ brake system . This is what we are trying to prevent with the help of sites such...
WOW , I think the way to go is the donor vehicle route , you would at least get all the big pieces . Once you FAB one up the rest would be easier . I would love to have been a fly on the wall when they came up with this BRAKE ? SYSTEM ! wonder if any ALCOHOL was involved .
WOW , talk about tempting faith , pinion brake only , no rops of anykind , on a 60 year old truck with at best defered maintenance . I would not move the vehicle in a parking lot , no less up and down a mountain .
FP1201 , could not agree with you more , when I tell people I am from NY , they ASSUME that you are talking about NYC , we are 450 miles from NYC! , I am 8 miles from Canada ! any way , hope to be in Tennessee soon .
5 Ton is Kenworth BIG , VERY HD . Bobbing a 5 ton , WHY , IMHO , not worth the trouble for what you want to do with it Why not look for a 929 , which is a dump or you can add a dump body to a 925 or just about anything . Kits for that . Do bear in mind 24 volt system . I think your best bet...
Kublo's is the way to go , real nice people usually have lots of stock to pick thru . The only thing I can add is take your time , and check , check , check the vehicle BEFORE you throw your money down . I ended up with a nice ride , but there were still things I missed , you know ...
Don't know about CT but in NY on a A3 , the year of the vehicle is the ORIGINAL date of manufacture , NOT the rebuild date . Look over your truck on the RIGHT front frame and see if you can find a original date , mine came back as a 67 , HX plates . The problem is most DMV people have NO clue...
Thank you for the VID's, they are great !It's good to look at the video's just to see how much I forgot ! What Tractor is that in the air brake video , can't recall that MV .
Welcome aboard . great site for your vehicle , LOTS of info available once you get used to the site . You are in the NY/PENN club area so you should be in good shape if you need help . bobk
Welcome to the site , Once you get the "MV BUG " one is NOT enough ! This is a great site ,with LOTS of good people and a ton of info on just about any MV . Take the time to learn and use the system and have FUN . I would also recommend you get hooked up with any local military club in your...
WOW , that is SOME CRACK ! Not to bad a job if all you do is R&R the unit , problem is you need a core for a trade . 700R4 is probably the way to go at this point . Would be A LOT easier if you had access to a LIFT , on the ground on jack stands is a PITA . I have done it both ways , as we say...
I put in a Pertronix unit and did away with the points about 3 years ago . Have never had a problem . I set the timing with a standard timing light , hooked to a 12 volt alarm battery . When I did have points I just got it up on a lobe and used a feeler gauge , never felt the need to check the...
Picture please , so we can narrow it down , could be something simple or maybe not .What kind of fluid is leaking ? trans , engine , coolant? Does it leak while running ? You need to start with the basics and go from there . TM TIME !
WOW , very impressive ! Not YOUR first Rodeo ! very nice welding and FAB work . Did you use a IRONWORKER to fab some of your parts ?. Do you do ROAD CALLS ? LOL . Good luck sir , can't wait to see the finished product , bob k
You really can't screw up a MV paint job , a lot of times it was just a pressure wash , knock off the big chunks and then painted by a 19 year old who didn't have a clue and they usually came out pretty good . Unless you want a "PERFECT" MV , follow the others advice and give it a try . In my...
