RE: Re: RE: Deuce Millage?
Either everybody else is lying, or my Deuce has a problem.
5-6 is normal, have hit 7-8 with with desplined hubs at 45 MPH.

Adam,
I'm getting way more waste motor oil than I can possibly use in my Deuce, so I'd really like to use it for heating my shop.
My 55 gallon drum stove is a lot bigger in diameter & height than the 1941 stove. I wonder if that's part of the problem.
Maybe you can answer some questions:

Well, I finally decided to get my heater going. Cut the bottom out of a 55 gallon drum to set over the oil burner. Made 2 holes in the top. One for a 4" chimney pipe & another for lighting. Put it together outside to burn the paint off the barrel.
Not knowing what is correct, I made some...
In the non-turbo multifuel. I generally run around 50. When I first brought it home, 1,000 miles, it was pedal-to-the-metal all the way with no apparent harm.
The gasser seems "happier" around 45 MPH.
Haven't driven the M813 with the Cummins much yet, but suspect it will run at 60MPH just fine...
FYI,
www.aircraftheating.com says they repair, & sell parts for South Wind heaters.
I haven't bought anything from them, but they wanted $45 for a copy of a service manual.
Type in South Wind Heater on Google, & you'll find other companies that service them. And there is always...
I know some will argue this, but by law driving is a privilege, NOT a right.
You are required to get a license from the state, & they can take it away from you.
And lock you up if you don't have one.
If a cop follows you long enough, he can find a reason to pull you over. Failure to signal lane...
I just can't understand why it's doing this. The foot pedal & the hand throttle both pull the same rod on the injector pump.
I wonder about installing a longer arm for the hand throttle to connect to, so it wouldn't be so sensitive.

Put a throttle cable on the M813 with Cummins 250. Found a problem.
Truck idles right at 500 RPM. Pull up slack in throttle cable & go one notch more, & it goes to 1900 RPM!
Now I'm noticing, that with no load on it, it's almost impossible to throttle it up "a little" with the foot pedal...
My non-turbo Deuce rarely turns 2 full revolutions before starting. Have tried it down to 0°.
I don't know why it starts so well, or why it gets only 5-7 MPG.

RE: typewriter oil
In 'Nam, we Seabee ratchetheads used to send the new guy to the parts room for "muffler bearings". Parts guy would say we are out, but they just got a bunch over at 3rd Marines. Marines would send him to the dock area, 'cause the Navy always has extras. Navy said check with...
RE: oil burner conversion for 1941 heater stove
In VietNam we started out burning gasoline in them, but switched to diesel because it put out more heat. I don't remember it smoking all that bad, but heck! There are a lot of things I don't remember from 40 years ago.
I too, bought one recently...
