RE: pray painting
Some of you guys will buy from Northern, but not Harbor Freight. It's the same stuff!
Well, a lot of it is.
Anyway, I used the $40 HVLP setup, with the separate paint tank, from Harbor.
Worked fine with very slightly thinned Marine Corps Green from Aervoe.
I've gotten a lot of...
RE: Rims
Got knocked off of a truck while in VietNam. Sprained the s**t out of my shoulder. Doctor put me on "light duty".
Chief put me to work in the Tire Shop. Said fixing those big tires WAS light duty in the SeaBees!

So just in case I don't have the beadlocks, how low can I safely go?
I'm not talking about rock climbing, just running through fields & down country roads.

Thanks very much guys. The picture from Sermis was what I needed to understand what they are.
I'm kinda hoping for a couple feet of snow so I can let some air out & play.

Beadlocks
Okay, so would the wheels on my M813A1 have beadlocks?
How low could I safely run the 1400R20 Michelins for maximum traction on snow/ice?

Opcom,
Some of the same things I'm dealing with on my post "Heavy Suckers".
I've considered a hydraulic spare mount on front too. Without a winch, & as cold as this truck runs, I can't see that it would be a problem.
I'll be watching for ideas too.

Got to spend a little more time on the 813 today.
Spare was loose in bed, so I figured I'd secure it. The two mounting studs at the front of the bed don't fit the 1400R20s, so I strapped it in place for now. I imagine the mount was for 1100x20s. I guess I'll have to make up a different mount...
I "hear" you readyman.
My problem is I always figure I can do as good a job as another guy, so why not save some money?
I still have one spare working alternator, so I'm not worried yet.
Thanks guys,
Eric

I've got 2 dead alternators, which I'd like to repair for spares. One is a Leece-Neville, the other a Prestolite. There is a shop nearby that will rebuild them for $150, but that's more than I want to spend. Has anybody ever worked on these?
What usually goes bad in them?
Where can you get...
Well, I finally got a little time to work on the M813A1.
Replaced the alternator with a used one I picked up. Working fine. Not difficult.
Tested sprag by putting front bumper against big oak tree. It works! Found out that with the 1400 Michelins, the engine would die before the tires would...
Mite fuel can mount
Can't say if they EVER had fuel cans mounted, but my Marine buddy doesn't think he saw any.
Here's a picture from about 1964.

RE: Re: NUTS!
Thanks a lot guys!
I'll take one with me & try to match it up.
And Gringeltaube- Remember the fronts are a different (smaller) stud size than the rears, although they are both 1.5 inch hex.

I need some front lug nuts for the Deuce, or actually nuts for the M332 Ammo trailer, which uses the same studs.
Are these a "standard" size that I can get at an auto parts or truck parts place?
I have a really good supply of rear studs & nuts, all new, if anyone wants to trade.

Chris,
Your answer reminds me of the time I bought a Hovercraft. Rated for 600 lbs capacity on water. I asked manufacturer how they came up with that rating.
He said there are engineering books they could use, Coast Guard formulas, & several other methods available.
I asked what formula they...
Recently got an M813A1 with Michelin 1400X20 Super Singles.
A buddy says he has heard of rollover accidents related to this tire setup.
Anyone familiar with this?
