LMTV as an RV in California

Not worth arguing. These are plastic and old. As in 20+ years in many cases. You must have lots of time. Spend your hours redoing it. I don't have the time. I will spend the $$ and in 15 minutes I'm back in action for another 20 years.

DIY camper box construction- what sizes/wall thickness steel or alu have you used?

I'm not sure where you are getting your info. from, but once they are glued, they are brutes. Most designs, even some steel ones, have a pivoting frame to prevent excess torsion.

The turn signal stalk does not break. The internal components fail and short. My time is money. $200 for a component known to fail and leave you stranded with no lights on the highway in 11 lanes of traffic. No brainer.... By the way, don't forget the blackout circuits, dual voltages...

LOL obviously someone who know very little about these issues. The switch control wipers, washer, horn, headlights, flash to pass, and turn signals. Yeah, it will take you hours to figure out the wiring, even with the TM. Yeah, I looked at exactly what you suggest. Not practical. If you think...

$199 from Rome Truck Parts in Georgia. Buy it now or buy it later, but it will fail in time and it is a total PITA.

Don't worry about the air of hydraulic pump. It is a piece of crap anyway. Just make sure the manual pump works. I don't think you need a diesel mechanic as much as a heavy truck mechanic. Someone who can look at the the air brake system.

Lots of non-running GP vehicles get shipped. If it breaks and it's too much, just ship it and rent a car.

Honestly, there are a ton of things that will stop you in your tracks. Tires are a definite. New tires in front are a must. Doubt they will bulge before they shred. Find out what the date codes are on them. Plan on driving slow. I will add some things: Carry an extra turn signal. When mine...

DIY camper box construction- what sizes/wall thickness steel or alu have you used?

I am fully aware that this thread started as a metal approach to an RV. I think this video provides valuable perspective. I have seen thousands American and European builds. Forest builds one a year and sells them for about $69k. It is one of the nicest, practical builds that I have seen. It is...

DIY camper box construction- what sizes/wall thickness steel or alu have you used?

I've been researching this for 3 years. My design has changed a zillion times. Mostly after talking to people that I would consider experts. If you have not attended the Overlanding Expo, please do so. Ask a lot of questions. Tour the Earthroamers, GXV's, the DIY builds, and investigate your...

Interesting points Geo. I understand what you are saying. Quotes from Ulrich Dolde: "Standard shelters which can be found ex army, border guards, police, fire brigades and humanitarian organisations, and secondhand refrigerated containers have a clear price advantage making them a good choice...
