Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

A note of appreciation to all who have interrogated, opined and advised. Truly a great resource. Will update after motor installed and tested on grid power.

Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

Yes, got the Baldor Reliance 5-56-1 from the big online retailer. Made in Fort Smith.

Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

After the fact, I checked Garage Journal, and there were complaints of noise and short motor life. I can say that inside, in an enclosed garage, the motor was very loud, a little quieter than a chainsaw, for years.

Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

Thanks for the counsel. You are right, but I do use the compressor frequently (twice a month?) but not for long durations. I was not at generator while all the fun was happening. It was running around 25% when I left it to turn on compressor, so I cannot say that it bogged or not. but I do think...

Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

Good points - $600 on me because I did not want a China motor so I bought a new Baldor. Thanks for tips on checking cap - will do and note values when I start new motor

Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

It was a loud motor from new, sounded normal for about 10-15 seconds, then "abby-normal" I think it was.... In any case, all seemed OK in prior use.

Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

Great point. Will check by hand once I have motor and belt guard out of the way - that occurred to me as well, but needed motor anyway....

Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

Have not been able to find any info on the motor, any info presumably lost through Reliance and ABB acquisitions of the once great Baldor. That is not to say it is not available, it is to say that I cannot get anything out of archive.org. It used to be a reasonable resource, maybe still is, but...

Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

Yes, you are correct and thank you for the advice. I should have been more attentive - lesson only cost 600 bucks...... so far.

Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

No on DVM check, was just getting genset r.unning after rain let up. Good data for next time - will check that. Unit is in dehumidified, sealed garage and motor is on top of unit, so I guess no wasps or rodents, but will check this when I pull the compressor out to remove old motor. Haven't...

Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

I have used the compressor sparingly to inflate tires, run an occasional tool and for blowing crud off the zero turn deck. Switches and wiring unchanged and unmolested, and the compressor switch was "off" when I turned it "on", and the fun began. Has been plugged into the wall continuously since...

Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

Had a couple of small mini splits on and some lamps. I was in the garage and cannot say but "maybe" the well kicked on too..... Great idea about the gradual loading and startup load checks, and I do intend to have wiring checked at the receptacle prior to startup. The opinions of folks will...

Burned Up Air Compressor Motor while Running 803A

Looking for some guidance. After Beryl passed, I hooked up the genset and got the cabin items running again, AOK. I turned on the Quincy QT-54 5 hp 3450 rpm 230V 21A single phase Baldor compressor motor, began compressing, and within a minute the motor was smoking. I unplugged it but not before...

Terminal Screws for Kraus & Naimer Switches - MEP-803A

Thanks - I could have used some local help getting seals for my Weber Hydraulik 30T jack last year! I am looking for OEM type replacement. The issue I see is removing and reinstalling the curved washers. McMaster has a good selection of SS 4mm-7x8mm machine screws, and cheap. I have a call in...

Terminal Screws for Kraus & Naimer Switches - MEP-803A

The half not corroded brown are greyish, so I assume zinc plating, although several corroded ones look coppery to me, where not corroded in the screwdriver slot. Maybe a mix of materials in screws on switch? For the time being, I have cleaned mechanically with brass brush, vibrated in soapy...

Terminal Screws for Kraus & Naimer Switches - MEP-803A

I saw the Misumis but they are steel too.... was looking for some type of alloy. I did find nice Cu alloy ZnCr plated 6-32x7.78mm screws for relay sockets at TE - https://www.te.com/usa-en/product-1437651-6.html

Terminal Screws for Kraus & Naimer Switches - MEP-803A

Thanks for the sentiment - upon cleaning, I see no pitting, but 40-50% had noticeable corrosion.... Just cannot clean very well between screw and washer.
