Well, let's see if I can get this pic on here.
OK! The wire I left off is the brown wire that is now attached on the post with the red wire. The wire that I could wiggle and make the gen 1 light come on/off is the other brown (smaller) wire that is coming out of the left side of the plastic...
The gen 1 light came on before engine start like it is supposed to all night long. The gen 1 light did not even glow with both heat and lights on. The headlights stayed bright also.
I am not saying that I fixed it, but.....;-)
You are probably right. But this cheap multi meter that I have may not be reading exactly right either. I found that the small wire that goes into the plastic clip on the driver's side alt was still dirty. When I cleaned it (AGAIN!) the gen 1 light came on before starting. I drove it to work...
THAT was another problem. The wiring diagram isn't like my alt!
I used the diagram, but it wasn't much help.
I read all the threads I could find. And they were SOME help. Like I knew that the heater circuit was the exciter circuit and that the gen 1 lightbulb had to be good..... But when I THINK...
If I knew, i wouldn't be pulling my hair!:-D
The truck was running fine until I started using the heater. The old heater motor was dragging BAD and I replaced it with a new NAPA one. But the gen 1 light was glowing dim with heat and lights on. After I put the new heater motor in, the light...
Yep, I'm pulling my hair out over this charging problem!
But I LOVE my MV and am already planning on more! (Don't worry about keeping this from the wife. I think she has the same iseas!) In what little snow/ice we have had, it has worked fantastic. And this 6.2 is the smoothest that I have...
Years ago I was in a company truck and this guy in a ratty old 2X4 Ford truck was belly deep in the ditch. It was against company policy to hook onto anybody, but the guy looked kinda desperate and i pulled him out. He offered me money, but I declined. That is when he told me that he had been...
OK. My gen 1 light does not come on PART of the time. I have cleaned all the connections, put a new end on the ground wire and it worked, but the light glowed dim with heat and lights. I replaced the heater blower that was dragging and the light would not come on at startup. This lead to a flat...
I want!
I would like to have this hood for my 1008. I could come over on Sat. I saw that you are in Granite City, Il. That is on the East side of St Louis, isn't it?
Let me know.
Thanks, Bob Miller
Mangus have you ever burned out a glowplug testing them this way? I had a 6.2 that the PO had tested the GPs this way when he put new ones in. He burnt 7 of them up! I took his word that they were new and good and paid a price (money AND time) for my gullibility!
It is a personal decision of course. I had to decide the same on my old 9C1 Caprice. I finally let 'er go, but I still miss her. I'll bet you will be the same. Even if you get one like it. The first one is always the one you remember.;-)
I apologize. I just assumed that you searched the forum and found your answer. Go to the CUCV forum and search that specific forum and you will see MANY threads that will give you better info than I can.
But a simple test to see if your glowplugs are getting juice is to use a test light and...
I loved having one key to fit all the locks on my 9C1 Caprices. Also the idea that I could go to Mich and start any '91 State Police car was kind of intrigueing!;-)
Yeah a bunch of us have mentioned/cussed/discussed the dreaded GL customized driveshaft from Ft Mead! They also broke my tranny to T-case adapter, so I'd suggest inspecting things closely. A little work now could save money and time later!
