I bought some stuff at an auction a couple weeks ago and ran across this unique looking shelter. I have never seen one like it before. It's about 5' tall inside, 64" wide and 81" long outside. It's totally rectangular, there are no wheel well cutouts like the S-250 has. It does have lifting eyes...
Thanks for the wiring info Guyfang. I finally got the generator back together. But, it doesn't put out any power. The good news is it started up and ran fine. I tried holding the start switch to flash the field, but still registered no voltage out. I started going through the troubleshooting...
I painted the generator end and had to drill out two bolts and re-thread the holes for the end cover. Next I put back the supporting frame then the output box. Leave all the bolts for the framework loose until you get the output box connected to the frame, it was a tight fit to get all the holes...
Thanks Guyfang. I had read the TM but forgot the flywheel bolts. I would suggest printing the appropriate pages and checking them off as you go. I edited the above procedure to specify which manual has the instructions and added the part about removing the flywheel bolts so I don't confuse...
I actually read in the other thread that they tried to adjust the RPM while the 400Hz generator was intact. The MEP-112a runs at 2200 RPM but the MEP-003a runs at 2000 RPM max. I was not sure how would be a good way to measure that, so I tried a photo tachometer on the generator fins (removed...
I found a great deal on a MEP-112a generator last summer. The seller included a 60Hz generator head from a MEP-003a generator for converting it over.
I researched it and discovered that I would also need a different control panel and output box as well. I have a non-running mep-002a and found...
Long term goal would be to get Baja TA replacements for them. Until then I will check them over thoroughly and keep an eye on them. I was mostly curious if a MT would be fine as a spare if the MTRs were on the truck. It's also interesting to hear other people stories about the MTR tires, seems...
Correct, that tire is definitely shot. If the other MTRs do not have any sign of cracking and are newer are they still at risk just because of the age? I've had plenty of MT tires much older that never have a problem.
I'll post more pictures of the helmet top tool box doors soon. It looks original to me, maybe an early model or something. I'll see if I can find the original sticker with NSN on it.
I got caught up in the excitement of finding the 24 bolt rims and Goodyear MTR tires locally. The spare tire...
I'd been putting off moving the shelter to the HMMWV trailer but decided now would be a perfect time. It was a great example of how some people can social distance while not feeling like it's the end of the world. One of us revved up the crane, one back the trailer under the shelter, one held...
A while back I recovered an S-250 shelter. I'm finally back to the project and working on it. Here's a couple pictures of the shelter when I picked it up.
It had some potential but needed some exterior work.
We worked on the roof and got a first coat of green paint on it.
The inside has...
I finally had time to work on the HMMWV again. I have added a roof rack, it was originally from a jeep but was a larger model. I'll add some pictures of how I did that. It's getting cramped inside the HMMWV,so I decided to move the hi-lift jack up to the roof rack.
My next project that I...
Hello I was out looking at the hitch today. I have the airlift bumper, the reinforcement plate and the receiver hitch. On mine the cotter pin did make it in the original hole. I left off the plate with the safety chain hookups and the thin plate that the pintle swivels against, the two added up...
I know how everyone likes details, so I'll post up some measurements I took. At the connector that plugs into the float switch I have 25 volts on pins A and C. On pin D I have 338 ohms to ground. On pin B I have around 300k to 8.5 Mohms.
On the sensor itself, I noted the pins C to D appear to...
Hello
I was checking out my MEP-004a generator and it started right up but then dies. I noticed the low fuel light came on and it ran for a couple more minutes with the battle short switch on.
I had been reading up on the mep-004a threads and had a few ideas of what to check. The main fuel...
Thanks to those who helped me with info to get this runnning. I was able to get it fired up. I'm in the process of adding a Solargizer to keep it ready to use. I still need to gather the fuel filters and change those, but it is running well. As I work on it some more I will add more pictures.
Hello
I picked up a small trailer mounted H1 heater this summer. I believe it was an air force unit used to preheat engines and shelters. It is NSN 4520-01-135-2770 P/N: 8227100 manufactured by Hunter back in 1983. It uses a single cylinder lister diesel engine to drive the burner unit...
I finally was able top pick up the generator. When I went over the first time we noticed someone there had ran into the coupler and it was not safe to tow. True to their word he repaired it so it functions well and I was able to pick it up. I've found Plan-B supply to be honest and a good group...
