Looking to replace my 60 amp alternator with a 200 amp unit. When looking on Ebay I see some that are $700, and some that are $1800.
What do I need to look for in the specs to work with my 88 Humvee with a 6.2?
Thanks.
Great info spoon, I appreciate it. I will look for some of those threads and read more on it. I haven't installed an antenna on any of my builds so far, so that's probably why I haven't fried a head unit like you are talking about.
Appreciate the reply fellas.
As an electrical newbie..... spoonsc1 - when you say add an electrical ground harness, is that component that can be purchased, or is that simply adding a ground wire to the actual steel frame of the Humvee?
This is the second Stereo system I have installed in a...
Got a question for some of you electrical guru's. So I installed an aftermarket stereo in my Humvee (couple of amps, and a head unit and some speakers). I have some pretty healthy noise coming through the speakers when no volume is being sent them. My gut reaction to this in any other scenario...
Got the Humvee out last night, its been a while, and once I got to around 50 mph it started "chugging" per say. Almost like the fuel was pulsing or something to that nature. Below 50, and at a idle, it runs perfect just like it always has. I drove it around quite a bit last night just to run it...
If time is money, wouldn't you be further ahead with the 700R4 transmission as far as install goes? Aside from the debate on the 700r4 not being adequate. From my understanding, having never installed either, from my readings the 700r4 is a much easier install. Is that not the case?
In the...
I have, and actually a few of the threads that took off about the 700r4 on here was mine ;)
That's probably the route I go if having a shop that will do it, run me 20k, lol. Time is something that is far and few these days, so I've gotten to the point of trying to pay for things like this. But...
Wow.................. Yea $20k plus into a swap will not be in this humvee's future, hahaha. No offense, I understand custom comes with a cost, but had no idea it would be that high.
I foresee tackling the 700r4 in my future I guess. I'm not looking for a motor swap, just want a lower first...
Sorry, but I disagree with that statement entirely. In fact, I would go on the opposite and say 99% of mechanic or transmission shops won't do the swap or have the knowledge to perform one efficiently and correctly.
More specifically, I'm looking to see if there are any shops that will do the 4-speed transmission conversions.
If there are, where are you located, and what would your cost be to do this.
4L80E or the 700r4. I'm interested in either one.
Thanks,
Bryan
That was an awesome write up davykeith! I'm still in the sourcing phase of trying to get a decently priced 700r4, then I plan to start the conversion on mine. I might hit you up with any questions!!!
