im thinking the tenn muni barn mechanics may have replaced the mc and bled the whole system, changed over to dot 3. the guys certainly wouldnt put expensive dot5 in if they knew a standard dot3 would work. the brakes on this truck work great. the fluid loss is tiny, if it sits for a long time a...
got it from a board member that got it from a tenn municipal sale, as far as i know. it was on my local craigslist. great truck, dont wanna monkey up the seals with wrong fluid forsure. ill get a sample from a bleeder as soon as this crazy kentucky weather warms up. (moved down to get away from...
well, installed the solenoid today, no more starter half kicking out with a shrill grind so far. nice solid SNAP and the starter engages with authority now. and also no worries of 24v frying the crap outta my wiring, starter- and mabey burning my m1028a to a crisp.(and i can send my daughter off...
and o'rielly auto has the correct relay,701860, 200 amp. i did get a ford starter solenoid- only 120 amp.... BACK IT WENT! i dont know if it can work, but im doing changing out with the doghead relay.
ive reversed the mount from under to in front of the dash, just in case it goes full retard, and ill jerk the plug. ill install the switch next and keep a spare in the truck, those things went out all the time on my fords. great mod dh!!!!!
its kool... by the way, what plow set up you have, and hows it work for you? im looking for a plow asap. im thinking a 85 blazer set up, old beat up stuff out there tho.
from what i gather, if the system works as its designed, the resistor can fail, then the gp's will get 24v and roast-....at any time. then broken little chunks of gp in the combustion chambers. if im wrong someone please correct me, im liking to be in control with the "button".
yep, a magnet, thats what i was thinking. im greatfull i havent had this problem, an old friend of mine who has a trucking co and a 15 truck fleet never has replaced a glowplug on any truck. he plugs them all in- block heaters. im thinking non of the gp on those trucks has ever worked. go figure.
exactly. on my 1028 its plain to see the 24v going into the resistor, then to the solenoid- before i disconnected from that source and went to the 12v bus on the firewall. the resistor was not stepping down the volts. its a done deal now, works like downtown now!:)
just replaced the fried 0070 gp's(new) with new AC60G's, and new clips, connected the solenoid to correct 12 bus. seems to work fine now. oh, do have a gp button on the dash already, mabey the installer thought the resistor worked to auto-reduce the 24 to 12v. NOT. my gp's can now only get 12v...
oh, and a new rubber floor mat, in any event- im still looking for a cucv blazer and after looking around here im getting a great education. my daughter wants one, at the least these military vehicles are safe and durable.CANT WAIT FOR THE BIG SNOW TO HIT!:jumpin:
yes this m1028a2 cucv is sweet, i know b/c i was lucky enuf to have bought it! and to think i almost purchased a 85 cucv blazer a fewdays before instead. nice, but no where as nice as ryan77's restored dually, this truck can easily be a fine addition to a military museum with some clevis hooks...
