I would add "air in the lines" to the list. Probably the second thing I would do after verifying brake adjustment is to simply re-bleed the brakes (including air pack!) and then re-assess. It is a long truck with loooong brake lines and air bubbles can hide away for a long time.

The plates and pins work, I can attest to that. Contrary to what one would believe, the pins should be inserted straight down, NOT (as one would instinctively do) "against" the pull direction (like tent pegs). The reason is that high pull forces would cause the pins to act as a lever that breaks...

The other nice thing about having crane hydraulics set up....it is so easy to simply put a changeover valve into the hydraulic line to power the dump bed instead of the crane....you know....the dump bed kit that you are going to install..... ;-)
