I saw an M1148 for sale on eBay in Hawaii 8 years ago. Last one I ever saw in the wild. I originally wanted to put a hooklift on a tandem axle commercial truck, then, I started working on a crewcab fire engine, removed the pump and tank, but it was still too lightweight. Then, I was looking...
True that. I readily admit to not being smart, but I sometimes like an adventure. There are other factors involved with this particular truck that go beyond an investment. I never expect to make money on vehicles by their value alone. I'm always interested in seeing other M1148's in the...
OK, so I wanted to write an update here as to the status of the M1148 A1R LHS on Guam. I've returned from my first trip to Guam and I can happily say that the truck is Running, Driving, and Stopping properly. It was a great troubleshooting experience that I have fully documented on the...
I volunteer to haul tank team support supplies. On my way to Guam now to "liberate" this M1148 LHS for 20 ft. ISO Container, Flatracks, etc.. Started a YouTube channel about it and other Veterans Helping Veterans projects and episodes:
Not Building Air Pressure - Sometimes, the Unloader Valve on the top of the compressor will get carboned-up or corroded if sitting a long time. Some people hit the compressor with a hammer near the valve, others have put a shot of ATF down the intake side of the compressor to see if it...
Yes, I am in contact with US Customs, although they have told me that because Guam is an American Protectorate/Territory the vehicle is not subject to US Customs review. It's like moving the vehicle from one state to another. I am getting more clarification from an import and maritime lawyer...
Quite right NDT - Thanks for studying the pics. The dropped split rear driveshaft appears to be a burnt carrier bearing. I'm looking for a replacement for that. Could also be a forklift hit, but it's black and rusty and the driveshaft around it looks like it has heat damage, too. My opinion...
I'll keep you posted. Someone bought the M1095 tandem axle trailer, I'll try to see if it's a local or not. I didn't want another thing to ship this trip until I really know the logistics and costs, so, I passed on it. Also, as this truck picks up and lays down stuff, the only trailer I...
Yes, I just want to make sure it's a runner. I can stay on Guam for a month, so we'll pull out all stops to get it back in shape. Clean undercarriage has been stressed by the shippers, no foreign soil. Lots of cleaning and corrosion control to do.
Hi to All FMTV Enthusiasts! I've been lurking and posting on the FB LMTV area and everyone says go look at SS, so, here I am. I bought an M1148 A1R LHS from GP in Guam.
I'll be going over there soon and I'm looking for the proper TM for the later model MTV. I see it on Army Pubs, but they say...
