I don't have the latest code so let me ask can I use green colored tape on the wire ends and be okay? I think this was okay in the past, say around 1993. I do have green jacketed THHN I could use. I just used scrap wire laying around as opposed to cutting a fresh length off of the spool. Ground...
I'm new at the MEPs having just acquired two 3kw 016Bs I did the following.
Cleaned out the fuel tanks, (Plastic and big opening means wiped out by hand)
Cleaned out the fuel water separator and drained. (Lots of water in one of them)
Pulled the intake hose and looked in the intake,
Pulled...
Post a pic of the generator, not the nameplate. Make sure we can see the engine if it is not an enclosed unit. Many of the 3kw sets were converted from gas to diesel and some were converted from Onan diesel to Yanmar Diesel.
What you say is true for the big vehicle forums where you are pages deep in a day or so. This is a smaller subforum and things move slower. The people here seem pretty knowledgeable and the ones that know your model gen set probably know most of the whole gen set and had a lot of the same type...
These are what I use for the MEP-016b
TM 5-6115-615-24P For parts pictures and part numbers
TM 5-6115-615-12 Operation and Maintenance
TM 5-6115-615-34 Tech Field Manual, similar to the operation manual but a little thinner.
Each has some other designations for the other armed services...
The tech manuals state to ground the L2 output for single phase 120 and 240 applications.
However, both of my MEP-016B gen sets have the L0 output grounded to the generator frame from the inside of the control box on the L0 inside terminal. Neither the manuals or schematics show this ground...
There is a parts manual for this generator.
The top lid outside diameter seal and the water drain seal can be reused many times.
The Carquest fuel filters I bought used the cork type doughnut on the top for a tight fit as the lid was tightened down. No issues.
If I was starting from...
The spin on oil filter and the drop in fuel filter cross over to auto parts that are available at low cost, under $10.00 each. The air filter was running on e-bay for $35 for three which is pretty good. The air filter system would be easy enough to modify by using radiator hose pieces and...
Back Up and Running!!
I replaced the two capacitors this afternoon and now it works perfect, no drift. I used the household 120vac suicide cord and jumpered to the meter to make the adjustment. Then, running I tweaked it slightly according to the kill a watt. The capacitor that was...
Derf, n1oty,
Thanks for coming through! The gen is the 016B, same as the 701A. The unit I found for $525 is probably made for some sort of large industrial control system hence the price. The container is much bigger so it probably is more complex inside.
Do you think the big...
Maybe "We" can fix it??
Okay, I have been trying to figure out what to do.
I pulled the freq transducer out of my other 016B and put it on the bench and hooked up the original meter from the unit that was acting funny. The meter worked fine and exhibited no drift. Conclusion, bad transducer...
Yeah, I kind of figured you would say it is shot. It was never run open. It is strictly a drift problem. I did see some 55 - 65 1MA transducers but they were too large to fit in the box and very expensive. A resister across the meter is not a problem if I did find a 1 MA provided temperature...
The transducer has one cal screw accessable through a plastic screw plug in the housing. It appears to have +/- 5Hz adjustability. In other words when the transducer settles down to 60 Hz and quits creeping I can move the needle full scale.
The drift over 20 - 30 min is the problem. It...
A used board at a reasonable price would be a good thing to have. Those AirPax relays are obsolete but available at $150.00 so to have a board with them intact is worth something. Peter's 12v relay with a socket conversion would be worth it too. Might be possible to cut the case off the...
Not sure how similar the transducers are between your 002 and my 016B but the cal screw in the transducer box will drop the needle from 65 to 60 with about half the range of turn limits of the screw. In other words this might help you match a meter to it a little easier. The system on the 016b...
I did some testing and now have some info.
I bought the Kill a watt and confirmed my house at 59.9Hz and 120VAC.
I ran the gen and the meter pegged over 65 when the set was adjusted to 60.0 on the kill a watt.
I removed the transducer and disconnected the wires from the meter.
I...
What ever the situation the pump should probably not run dry for any length of time, especially if there is loud hammering noise. The clicking noise when running with fuel is the check valves working. The fuel adds resistance and provides lubrication and cooling. I only run the pump in aux...
I have 016Bs but visually the pumps look the same. The 016B does cycle the pump to fill the tank. However, the pump test is to deadhead the pump and measure the pump output pressure. When this is done the pump stops cycling when pressure, about 7 psi, is made. I would conclude that your pump...
Okay, then I have my assignment! 1. Buy a Kill a Watt. 2. conduct calibration with 120VAC household. I did just read the big "Frequency Meter and Transducer" thread and gained valuable info. while you were preparing your reply! Thanks for that info too. Thanks to everyone. I'm going to...
