Well today changed out a front tire that was bad dry rotted after pulling another duece to a friends house. The truck is running better and better every time I drive it. Will have more pics up as I go.
Ok so finally got the crane off and bed on just in time for a milsim event at camp Shelby. Did a little touch up paint and put a hard top on her. She is looking better but still has a long way to go.
I know it's going to be a chore to make it 4 door but I'm sure between my welding/fitting experience and CSMDavis's knowledge of these trucks we will get it right. It's not a project I'm tackling right now but I want to do it because I have three kids and want to be able to fit the whole family...
Thanks jeepsinker that sounds about like what I was thinking just not going to change out the engine. I will just turn it up enough to be able to pull a decent load and keep my speed up. Also since I'm a pretty big guy I want to make it a 4 door so I can move the front seats back a little to...
Thanks for verifying that we did the right thing we just completely bypassed it and I will be removing it pretty soon. Don't think I will get cold enough to need it down here probably just keep a can of either in the truck just in case.
Thanks I will sure let you know if I get stumped. What mods did you do to yours to make it more comfortable for everyday driving I still don't know exactly what I want to do yet.
Thanks for the info I was going to go that way but decided to keep the right batteries in it. Anyway I got to do some more work on it. Once I changed the batteries out I bypassed the flame heater and she runs again. Also had problems with the lights and yall were right I changed the main switch...
Well guys got to start back on this beast and have bypassed the flame heater. Tried to start it and batteries are toast so I ordered some military batteries and am waiting on them to come in. Hoping I can have it running soon and get the crane off and a bed on it. I will update more as we go...
Figured out what happened. The lines going to the flame heater were what looked to be poly flow tubing and was way too close to the turbo and melted. This caused diesel to spray directly on the turbo and ignited. Could have fixed it with a ferrel but didn't have one on hand. I owe a big thanks...
My first Duece.
Ok I have been searching and can't find it anywhere. Why would my deuce be pouring diesel from the passenger side top of the engine. Its almost dead in the middle but I can't see exactly where it is coming from, almost looks like it's coming from the head. My oil level is a...
Well I made it about 20 miles and the engine caught on fire. I'm pretty sure diesel was going into the crank case and it finally overflowed and hit the turbo. Then I'm sure y'all know the rest. Luckily I have went through some firefighting classes and didn't panic and remembered that I had a...
Ok guys today is the day. I'm leaving soon to go get my deuce and drive her home. What are some things beside tools that I need to have in my support vehicle before I go down to get her. I'm almost positive the trip will be uneventful but you know how it goes if you don't prepare for problems...
I have had a few close calls with pressure at work. I am a wellhead technician for GE Oil & Gas and work with pressure on a daily basis. For example when I install a new wellhead we have to pressure test the seal to be certain everything mated up correctly. Most of our seals are metal to metal...
I'm sure the duece will haul that 5th wheel but your not going to go very fast with it. As far as upgrades I would say you would need the adapter to change the 24 volt system to 12 volt as I'm pretty sure the camper is wired for 12 volt. Not sure about anything else as I am just getting into...
I feel you there and I may not go with the 5 ton axles I was just keeping it in mind because I have read a lot about the duece brakes and wanted to rid myself of some problems. I am also going to get a 5 ton tractor and make it a crew cab. Or at least extend the cab some to allow me to mount the...
So today I got to go work on my truck and was able to get the brakes working properly and now feel good about driving it home. Probably drive it home by Friday don't know when I'll get to start on it but at least it's getting closer. Can't wait to get going on it!
