Actually, let me amend my suggestion to tow around the yard. Do this:
Put the crown nut on but loosely, THEN tow around the yard. That way, when the lunette finally comes loose, you don't drop the trailer.
If towing around doesn't work - check for welds. :)
Those M52 series trucks are getting harder to find in nice shape as time goes on. I'd say pull the flatbed, put the fifth wheel back on, and do a 24087 paint job with a yellow nose and white lettering for that Vietnam look. My two cents.
I don't care if it's 3pm in Saudi Arabia, when I meant HEAT I meant get a blowtorch, and heat up the pintle shaft area smoking, burn the paint off, hot enough to cook on it. Sitting in the sun in Phoenix is not hot enough to break free solidified goop and rust. High heat from a torch will...
And if that don't work, hook it to your truck and take it for a little off-road journey around your yard, maybe towing it and getting from side-to-side motion on the pintle will help.
If you get back in the driveway and the trailer is no longer behind you - it worked!
It's stuck. Put the crown nut on backwards, but not all the way, just enough to seat the nut, but not so any threads from the shaft are showing. Tap with sledgehammer on the nut, a couple whacks and it should pop off. If not, shove a long breaker bar in the pintle hole and using leverage...
They didn't. Probably one was in the driver's seat, one gunner, two loaders in the gun mount, and two ammo monkeys who were outside on the ground unpacking shells from their cans and handing them up to the loaders as fast as possible.
See the open feed mechanisms above the breeches of the...
Close. It's a M989A1 HEMAT trailer.
THIS is a M989 trailer. They are easier to identify by noticing the M989 is two axle centered, while the M989A1 has two axles outboard.
You might also consider carrying a couple sections of Marsden matting in your truck when you go offroading. Lots of off-roaders carry small sections of them in their Jeeps as a traction mat, they work well.
Had to go up to HAWKMAN's place today to pick up a couple pallet loads of military manuals that I am going to be scanning and/or pawning off. He is a great guy, was able to give me a tour of the place, load me up with a forklift and was all-around very helpful in making the deal work out with a...
A couple local groups around here are looking at starting a new MV rally in the July/August timeframe in No. VA, but it would depend on how many guys we can get interested in it. Lots of MV owners within 200 miles, not much going on in the MV world that time of year.
Get a ladder to get in the back, your "patients" are going to fall out of the ass end when you arrive at the M*A*S*H unit.
Looks cool, but TALL. Might have to measure the height and constantly look at a trucker's atlas to see if you can fit under overpasses.
