Made it back! 1700 mile round trip. I drove to Bald Eagle State Forest to camp on the way down. I entered Bald Eagle State Forest into my GPS and started driving.
Once I was close to my “destination,” I was routed off the highway and up a dirt road on a mountain. The road started getting...
I worked on the truck all day last Friday, then the heater stopped working Saturday morning. I found a wire to the blower motor had fatigued into. A quick job with my butane soldering iron and the heater works again. Yesterday, I couldn’t get the truck to start and eventually found that the...
My wife tells me every day “That vehicle is not a daily driver.” My trips to and from work and everywhere else I go says otherwise! I love driving this thing!
I was considering dropping by Hillbilly Wizard along the way to pick up some bits, time permitting. May make some friends if things start to break. Ha!
I picked up an M1010 CUCV this past spring. After adding an alternator, working on the wiring, replacing the fuel lines, and tying up some loose ends, I have been daily driving it. I don’t mind cruising at 50 on the highway. I added some camping supplies to the box and have taken it camping a...
Drove the M1010 to a mountain bike race today. 100 miles each way. The ambulance did great! I need to get some paint on it soon, as the white paint is not cutting it.
I’ve been dailying the M1010 for a couple of weeks now. It’s running great from what I can tell. My plan is to continue refreshing stuff as I get time. I want to replace all the old rubber stuff (brake wheel cylinders, hoses, etc.). Also planning to get some camping trips in during this fall season.
Thanks! Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Rats can wreak havoc on wiring. I’m undoing some poor work from the past, such as bolts left out during service. Once I get this vehicle sorted, I expect to use it daily. Many people scoff at using such a vehicle for daily duty, but I am in love with...
I had some time this evening to dig into the truck and found that the big positive wire to the starter was shorting out on the heat shield between the starter and manifold. A big storm came in and made me call it a day. Tomorrow, I plan to repair the issues and get it running again.
I also need to get one of those brackets. Someone deleted it before I got the truck. It’s important for the 6.2, so I will add that to the list of parts.
I drove the truck to work today. It drove great! On the way home, it died on the highway and I had zero electrical. No lights with ignition on, etc. After poking around under the hood, I decided it would be best to tow home instead of starting an electrical fire on the side of the highway. I...
I found the culprit. A few of the bends I made in the hardline were kinked off. I made a new set with a better bending tool and it now runs well. Drove it to work today.
And the truck is back to dying on me. It seems to be starving for fuel. New lift pump, new tank and sending unit, new lines and hoses, new fuel filter, fresh diesel, etc. I don’t want to replace the lift pump unless I can definitively prove it is faulty. Back to the drwing board.
I spent my free time this week pulling the tank and fuel lines from my M1010. I bent some 3/8” steel line to replace the rusty originals and also replaced the rubber hoses (except the molded one that goes from frame to lift pump). After installing and priming the system, it has been running...
I got the M1010 engine assembled and running, but it only runs for a minute or so before dying. Added a clear line to the return on the injection pump and see a ton of bubbles come in right before it dies. The tank and sending unit are new and full of diesel, i replaced the rubber lines from the...
Busy weekend cleaning, disassembling, more cleaning, painting, and assembling. Waiting on the thrust button and spring for the injection pump to arrive before I finish assembling and get some use out of the M1010 this fall.
The part was nowhere to be found, but I found a shop that had the part and shipped it on Friday. Once that part comes in, I will be finishing the engine refresh. Looking forward to having this amazing truck back up and running!
I have been resealing the engine in my M1010. Looking for a part missing from my injection pump and it seems to be unobtainium. Will get everything cleaned up and reassembled in the mean time. Maybe the part is in the sump. Will find out tomorrow.
