with respect to the exhuast, could ou not tie into the OEM exhaust of the truck usng a T- type fitting in the main pipe somewhere that the gen exhaust can clamp to? it would help direct both sound and fumes up and away from the truck
it actully wouldnt require that much work but heres a crude diagram on a simple system to perform what you would need to do.

not too much of an expert on the electrical, but could you not branch off the headlight circut into a relay that energizes the park lamps circut when you turn on the headlamps?.
