Thanks everyone! Ill go to it tonight and look at bypassing the resistor. I changed it over to AC Delco 60G about a month ago, they should be still be ok right?
**** thing wouldn't start, i had to bum a ride. So i need some help. My trucks glow plugs are on a push button. Tonight it wouldn't start, and something was smoking. If your looking at the air cleaner, the thing (highly technical term) behind it, behind the heat shield was smoking. Pretty sure...
My 1009 shows 60k on the odo. I checked the atf yesterday and its barely showing on the dipstick. What little is on there is black and smells awful. Naturally i want to change it and the filter. A few people have said it may be a bad idea. Something about the friction material from the clutches...
Ok..lol.. i checked the glow plug voltage by checking the voltage at one of the female plugs. When i push the button it starts at 8.5 and goes to 13.2 in about 10 sec. I imagine thats not right.. checked the alt again and with key OFF i get 12.4 at red wire in pigtail. Same with key ON never...
Ill check voltage at the gp tonight i was going off what the previous owner said.. the whole harness to my alt was cut and extended to make room for the ac compressor i think.. ill also check those splices
Sorry its taken so long to get back to yall.. the starter and gp are still 24v. Can someone post a pic of the back of drivers side alt. With key on i get no gen1 light. The bulb is good and i have battery voltage to the red wire in the pigtail. It checked good off the truck
Now that ive added this beautiful lady to my harem, and given it the once over i have stupid questions..
1. Why wont this plug go on and what is the black wire?
2. On the left is a glow plug button and the right is a start button... does this mean i dont need to do the doghead mod?
I've been reading about switching from 24v to 12v, the starter relay, and a few other things... Where else can I look for one that already has these things taken care of... Everything I've seen on here are still pretty close to mil spec....
Not worry about the age... I actually use a credit union, they gave me 80% of NADA fair on my Grand National.... So are these just titled as a K5?.... I'm not in a huge hurry, I could probably pull some money together in a few months, at least by winter
