Rebuilt the Gemmer box and found it wasn't such a big deal after all. The sector gear bushings were so worn they folded up like tin foil. The new ones went in with a minimum of effort after spending an hour in the freezer and placing the gemmer box by the fire place.
Thank you both for the reply. I know this truck belonged to the Army Missle command in Europe according to the Data plate located on the frame. I'll check the plate on the jack.
