What the moral of the story here? Never debate with a guy who sleeps on top of his engine dyno roflrofl

    3126 w/ABS vs 3116

This is absolutely false. The value of RV's in general will NOT continue to appreciate like this. The market CURRENTLY dove off a cliff and values are dropping like a rock. The market will be flooded with RVs and Off-Road vehicles will be available by the 1000's. 3rd QTR 23 prices for diesel are...

If you rescue someone with your truck in the snow this week, please do a video

If you rescue someone with your truck in the snow this week, please do a video for the archives. Will be used to promote military vehicle use / to help legislation in Anti-military truck States / Countries. Canada's military trucks, for example, have taken a beating in their legislation. Showing...

    3126 w/ABS vs 3116

Actually, I have not thrown stones. I explained why I am satisfied with my 3116. You have tried every which way to defend your thinking, rather than taking the time to see someone else's approach, just to say you are right. You have gone off on tangents. Now you are talking gears. I have said...

    3126 w/ABS vs 3116

"Sure - physics. I get that but it proves nothing empirically or practically." :ROFLMAO: Any man can take a 370 hp CAT up a hill, but the real question is: "How long can he afford the diesel to do so, and who will clean up his CAT litter?"

    3126 w/ABS vs 3116

Nice engine. Some are bi-turbo. Wonder how it runs on WMO. You think diesel has been expensive this year, wait until Q2-4 2023.

    3126 w/ABS vs 3116

Scientists who understand the physics of engine momentum, heat, pressure, etc, know that the laws of physics are a give and take. Increase HP and TQ = increases wear and reduced MTBF, assuming all other things are held constant. These are basics facts. You don't need to study each engine, that's...

    3126 w/ABS vs 3116

Actually what pencils in my head is HP and TQ vs long term reliability. Have you not had physics? I will take the reliability bonus. Why would they need to de-rate if the military expectations of a 35K life (to quote you)? By the way, the Steyr 12m18 only has 177hp.
  12. Reworked LMTV

    3126 w/ABS vs 3116

That is an awful lot of power to put through such a small block and a LOT of heat to dissipate on such an old design. Reliability is likely to suffer. I'd watch those EGTs like a hawk. I'd go with a bigger block to run that HP and TQ regularly. Maybe a newer technology Cummins or something like...

    3126 w/ABS vs 3116

Still love my 3116. Not concerned about winning a race, just enjoying the ride... Oh hey, it's cold outside. Better get a blanket for the little CAT to keep her warm : )

I felt that this article was very interesting and relevant to the 3116, 3126, and C7: https://thecampingadvisor.com/is-the-cat-c7-a-good-engine-problems/

    3126 w/ABS vs 3116

Some will be very interested in this. You will likely get a lot of questions. How hardened are the ECMs for EMPs?

    3126 w/ABS vs 3116

Ok, you are certainly entitled to your opinions on these trucks. The alternator to me is an issue, but a fairly minor one since it can be replaced with an upgraded one or an aftermarket. This was an engine discussion. Please share your sources for ECMs, programming etc, so the others may get...

    3126 w/ABS vs 3116

The discussion was 3116 vs 3126, not AO vs A1 etc. "ECM failures are absurdly rare" ????? I concur with Ronmar. How did you get CAT to flash another ECM with the same serial number, miles /hours etc? Engine ECMs and Trans ECMs are two different subjects.

    3126 w/ABS vs 3116

A healthy and respectful debate is a good thing, when people's intent is gaining knowledge. I will explain my Modus Operandi for choosing the 3116. First, there is no doubt that the 3126 and C7 are more powerful than the 3116. In my opinion, "intended use" is the most important factor...

Who loves breaking down tires? (Not me!!)

I did one recently. Wasn't too bad, but have done 7 in past. Here are my recommendations for this: 1. Call your orthopedist first 2. Use a bead breaker from Amazon 3. Never let tires fall flat on ground, if can be avoided. You can hurt your back badly if you have to pick it up. 4. Do it on a...

    Diagnosing CTIS M1078

I agree. It would not be hard to do this with a weather-proof box. Speaking of inexpensive work-arounds, like the penny collection I started in the old farm house fuse box. Who needs fuses, when a penny will suffice? Old Abe trickrofl
