Quick question - why do the instructions call for leaving the shims in place? I've noticed on some of the install videos that they remove the shims, and after installing my eco hubs it doesn't seem like the shims serve a purpose once the gears are removed. Are they left in place to keep things...
My 1079 sat for sale for several months before I finally jumped on it, I was surprised and fortunate that it lasted that long considering how rare A1Rs are. But like you said it was probably passed over by a lot of folks because it had a high initial asking price of $55k and wasn't marketed...
I ordered a T6 based on what an Amazon seller said would fit and it was too big, so it is likely a T4. I have a C7, but I believe the turbo is the same size as the 3126. I just found this but haven't put a tape on mine yet:
Better late than never, here’s the trip report:
Day 1 – 421 miles – Green Valley IL to Kansas City MO
Day 2 – 750 miles – Kansas City MO to Spearfish SD
Day 3 – 0 miles – Troubleshooting wheel hop in Spearfish SD
Day 4 – 546 mile – Spearfish SD to Great Falls MT
Day 5 – 185 miles – Great Falls...
The stock number for my speedo was 62,618 pulses/mile, so you'd want to halve that with the Ecohubs and 3.90 gears. You can program it yourself if you have the Cat ET software and adapter cables.
Made it to the Alaska border late last night (yes that is midnight sun)! Just under 400 miles to go to get home, truck has been running like a top. I'll write replies and a full trip report when I get home.
To update this, the truck is running amazingly besides the wheel balance issues I posted about in another thread. I'm currently in BC Canada with limited internet service. I've driven bout 2500 miles so far, the ecohubs are awesome, I got approximately 10 mpg going through the mountains from...
Yep, I'm driving through Canada with intermittent internet service right now. Drove another 615 miles yesterday, the vibration/hop has been tolerable and still varies greatly depending on speed. It is worst around 55 mph/90 kph which is rough since that is the speed limit on a lot of the roads...
Yes, the tires and run flat inserts were completely clean and dry when assembled. I did not add the run flat grease/soap since I would not be driving any significant distance in the case of a flat tire.
Sorry for the delayed reply, it did get it mostly resolved (thankfully very simply!) and I've been busy putting some miles behind me for the last couple of days (in Canada now). Before swapping a front wheel for the spare, I tried changing tire pressures to see if that had any affect. I...
I was running 85 psi cold. I did not check the toe in, I don't have calipers but I could use a tape measure to at least see if it is way off.
I assumed some "floatiness" was normal, these tires have a very rounded profile so only the center lugs make full contact with the pavement, that...
Thanks, that was my thought as well. On the steering topic, are all these trucks "floaty" at speed? Mine is, at speeds above 60 it can get a bit floaty feeling, I assumed it has to do with the tall flexy sidewalls.
Thanks for the suggestions, tires have 2022 date codes, the spare matches. 14.00R20s fit in the spare location, they just stick out a bit further.
A mobile mechanic came and looked at it and he thought it was steering related, but wasn't able to help much beyond that. I'm more inclined to...
I'm on my way home to Alaska with my M1079 and I'm getting some severe vertical wheel hop on the front axle to the point where it is undrivable above ~40mph. I've got about 1000 miles on brand new 14.00R20 tires with balance beads in them, there was some minor wheel hop since the start but I...
Well, I made it as far as Spearfish South Dakota, I'll write more about the journey later. I've developed some pretty severe wheel hop on the front axle. I'm going to try to find a truck shop to get the front end checked out, but might not have much luck on a Sunday. Any troubleshooting...
Wheels tires, and filters galore! I got all 5 tires mounted and everything went ok except for a couple of spun studs that mount the split rims together. They should be good with the remaining 19 bolts right? Is there a field expedient fix for spun split rim studs?
I got the 3 piece run flats...
Thanks @Ronmar, I think I'll order one of those flasher modules to have just in case. I'll only have ~3 days to work on the truck in Illinois before heading north so I'm trying to get everything I'll need before flying down.
Small world, I bought it from Green Valley just south of Peoria.
Not sure, the turn signals/hazards didn't work when I inspected the truck. I didn't have time to fully troubleshoot the cause at the time, but I noticed that the hazard relay wasn't original, so I'm hoping it is a simple relay...
