Hi all,
I currently own a deuce and have a class-A CDL. I obtained my CDL mainly to get a 5-ton or larger truck later. Here's my question, do 5-tons and larger ex-military trucks need to stop at weigh stations? If I registered it as a historical vehicle, would it be exempt?
I haven't seen...
Restore it!
Please don't mod it though. Those old trucks are getting harder and harder to find. The M37 is like the old WWII Jeeps which were once plentiful, but over time many off roaders got their hands on them and modified them until they were unrecognizable as a military vet. Now it's...
I used Uship.com to find a shipper for my deuce. It's like ebay. Post what you have to ship and shippers bid down the cost to ship it for you. You can even pick the shipper of your choice based on reputation. You don't necessarily have to pick the cheapest bidder.
My Deuce is coming together slowly, but surely. Next on the agenda is to repair the starter cable.
What day is the parade? I missed out on it last time.
It's been my experience that "no start" could be dead batteries or a blown engine. It's part of the fun of buying government surplus. You don't know what you're getting until it's in your possession. :-)
I'd just like to chime in and say welcome to the site!
I have purchased and recovered 3 trailers from Ft. Lewis. (M101A1, M105A2, M101A2) Once you get the system down, it's very easy and the GL personnel while almost always busy, they are very helpful.
A zombie apocalypse may not occur, but it's good to be prepared in the event of a disaster whether it's man made or natural.
Also people always ask why I would want to own an old military truck. It's fun to tell them I'm preparing for the inevitable zombie apocalypse. It usually stops them...
GL is strict, but after the first EUC it gets easier. Just save your old corrected EUC paperwork and copy most of the information over the next time you win something. My last EUC cleared within a week of winning the auction. Like others have said, GL is just the middle man. They have to follow...
There are licensed exporters who could help you with the transfer. I'd recommend giving them a call first to see what is needed and how much they would charge.
I worked over 10 years at a commercial vehicle lot here in Washington state and have a lot of experience transporting vehicles across...
I can't get my truck up to 60mph. You must have oversized tires or are pushing your truck too hard.
Also all deuces slow down on hills. It's a 135HP engine pulling a 13,000lb truck.
I disagree with this proposition of course, but it's hard for me to imagine a vehicle that was built in 1981 could be considered a classic. I must be getting old.
