What have you done to your JEEP today

Well it happened….my jeep FINALLY runs. On Thursday I swapped out the condenser and replaced the distributor power cable. I needed to clearance the condenser bracket (it rubbed against the distributor shaft) and then I fabricated another little locking tab that holds the distributor plate in...

What have you done to your JEEP today

My replacement distributor power plug, and condensers FINALLY arrived (I ordered three so I have extra for when they die) today. On my days off I'm going to get it installed and see if my spark situation changes. Hopefully I'll have spark at the plugs now.

What have you done to your JEEP today

I actually went through this issue when I removed the factory coil. That resistor/disk is now internal so the coil is full height. Here are some pics I took back in 2017 when I replaced it:

What have you done to your JEEP today

New coil came in and I installed it (after ohm testing it to verify). I still had inconsistent spark (at the points) which was super strange. As I was turning over the motor, I noticed the wire that runs from the distributor power input to the coil was moving.....that's not good. I guess it's...

What have you done to your JEEP today

I finally had some more time to work on the jeep. I hooked up everything and tried to get it to fire with starter fluid (before I went through the trouble of testing it with gas). Well, it didn't fire. I started with a compression check (dry), and all cylinders are between 90-92 which is good...

What have you done to your JEEP today

I had an afternoon free on Christmas so I took the chance to get some work done on the jeep. I'm using a military distributor with a civilian block so I have to re-clock my oil pump for everything to be timed properly. I found TDC and checked the alignment of the distributor, sure enough it was...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Well here's the latest update on my M38A1 saga. After being at the mechanics since July 2020 (one month short of 1.5 years) I got tired of him not doing anything and brought it home. Not much was done in the first year. In the last six months he installed the new motor and incorrectly plumbed...

What have you done to your JEEP today

The replacement F134 is in the jeep. About two weeks ago I sent off my MV fuel pump to John at Midwest Military. He did an outstanding job at cleaning it up and rebuilding it. It arrived back earlier this week and I dropped it off at the mechanic. Also my radiator was finished getting cleaned...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Mechanic just sent me a pic of the new motor (with all the 24v accessories swapped over) installed in the jeep. Now it's just time to button-up the final details.

What have you done to your JEEP today

My jeep engine rebuild saga looks like it's FINALLY coming to an end. I got tired of waiting for parts to arrive. A few days ago I found anF134 for sale some-what locally. This morning I drove 2hr each way up to Amarillo to pick up the motor. If all goes well it will be installed in the jeep...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Yea hand-sanding wheels is horrible & I'll never do it again. The last jeep wheels I did I used a wire brush in my electric drill. It knocked off all the rust, and scuffed-up the surface enough for paint to hold w/out any issues. I'll probably do the same thing with these.

What have you done to your JEEP today

I had been searching for some spare wheels for a while now and actually found a guy in town with "5 old jeep wheels for sale" for $200. So I picked them up today and when I arrived the guy actually had six wheels with one being an M151 wheel...so that's neat. All 6 had rubber on them but only...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Well I finally had some time to work on that broken-off hex key that was stuck inside my PTO winch main gear set screw. I used some high pressure air coupled with picking at it with some tweezers. It eventually came out. After that was removed, I got the winch all buttoned up. Once my jeep...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Over the weekend I decided to try another attempt at breaking loose the PTO pipe plug. That failed. I tried heating it, welding a nut to it, and a few other things....nothing worked. So I put that aside for now and decided to do some winch work. I tore it all apart (or as apart as I could get...

What have you done to your JEEP today

*from last week* I have been hunting a PTO winch setup for about 5 years now. Last month I scored a Koenig 100 pto winch setup off facebook marketplace for a great price. Usually pto winches in my area run around 1K-1500, this one I picked up for $500. It came with the winch, koenig 51 pto, and...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Very clean installation. I like the LP light. I am also running YOM license plates. I used the jerry can mounting location. It's not the prettiest but it works and comes off easily with two bolts.

What have you done to your JEEP today

I have been hunting a pto winch setup for about 5 years now. Everything I have found has either been on the far side of the country or priced way way too high. Well over the weekend I was randomly looking around facebook marketplace and came across a complete pto winch setup for a GREAT price...

    1966 CJ-5 to M38A1 Clone Build

Are you required to retro-fit turns signals to old vehicles (that didn't originally come with them) in Canada? I saw this turn signal solution for classic vehicles over on the jay leno garage channel (& I'm considering it if I decide my M38A1 needs signals) There aren't wires and it's LED. The...
