Agreed. I did all 6 rods on the ground with nothing removed or jacked up. Went fine. Don’t make it more work than it needs to be. The cotter pins may not cooperate. I just turned the nut right through them to shear em’ off. All 12 went fine this way.
These confirmed to work well on the 939(a2) air brake drums, front and rear? Not sure there is any difference as compared to the fluid 809 series drums. I’ll take one if so, don’t cut it up, I can provide a UPS or Fed-Ex account number to ship on. I have a new 24v gear reduction starter or 70a...
I would add the dump hoist to your truck. Even if you paid to have it installed, it would increase the value of the truck by at least that amount, usually more. Dump trucks are pricy to begin with, and 4x4 or 6x6 dump trucks are rare and very capable ($).
This one is a pump turn up thread, but........I got that # from a lot of study on RV boards. They are a large user group of the 8.3L and always in hard quest for more power and fuel mileage.
If I remember correctly, our timing is a very conservative 10 degrees.
The general consensus was...
Yes there is a spring loaded pressure relief valve (ball) in the outlet banjo fitting bolt on the injection pump. Common air entrance points are soft suction lines, fuel tank dip tube, solder at top of fuel tank dip tube fitting, square washer mis-seated at top of frame mounted filter if it has...
It’s not about Wes at all, actually.
Fueling rate changes, if desired, should be done by the owners and use an EGT gauge. Situation could very easily happen where a city issues a citation for black smoke on take off, or a user melts their engine down, and then Wes is blamed.
I typed in...
Install a clear piece of tube on your fuel return line, look for air bubbles. When using push button thumb primer, you should hear the overflow valve "squeak" as it unseats and allows fuel to flow past itself. This valve is the return line banjo fitting bolt. It is hollow with a spring loaded...
You guys are asking another dude to run all over the country for you. There are plenty of clear videos and explanations of how to do it posted right here that people took a lot of time to document. There is the zero-boost fueling screw on top (stop light take off performance), then the main...
Simp has had numerous of the ball joint type wear out early. He does run a lot of weight, so you be the judge. I did the retaining plate myself, and if you do it yourself is quite low cost. Access to large and mill makes it go quick and easy. I went full disc washers, and see no signs of...
Had an oil leak from the front of my 8.3L. Bought new timing cover gasket and crank seal. Was quick and easy to change both. 18mm socket and breaker bar for the 4 crank pulley bolts, 3/8” ratchet to drop the belt tensioner, and 10mm for the timing cover bolts and tach adapter.
Upon...
Changed the front timing cover gasket and crank seal on my 8.3L. Gravy job, went quick

Took my 9 to Woodward Dream Cruise last weekend. The largest single day car event in the world.
Now at band camp with my daughter, and you know why...
8.3L's get nearly double the fuel mileage, and does not have asthma on the freeway. I have one for sale from my M925a2 as a complete take-out, still being driven weekly.
There is also a bleed screw on the injection pump that can be used in conjunction with the push button primer on the lift pump. Makes quick work of all of it. Can even fill the frame mounted canister filter (if you have one) reasonably quick.
Pre-filling filters reduces the work, just be...
The flywheel housing on the military 6CTA8.3 in the M939a2's measures out to be about one inch longer than a conventional flywheel housing for a manual trans with a clutch. Just FYI, it may be specific to the Allison MT654CR due to the necessary clearance for the torque converter. The trans...
I think this one is an air brake part, possibly located just behind front bumper. Simp knows this system somewhat decently. He'll be along here in a minute....
Love the death threats. I enjoy hearing from my support group. Need existing 6CTA8.3 to sell as next step. Engine is posted is SS classifieds and locally, but 8.3L is pretty darn reliable so not many people need a replacement, unless their rocker arms all fell off.
